My car seems to be pulling to the left quite bad. The stearing in wheel is perfectly straight when going straight, but if I let go of it it veers sharply to the left.

I mean let go and its like across 2 lanes in a few seconds!

What could be up? The bloke did say it had a new left suspension arm for the MOT!

sounds like your tracking is way out, could also be your tyre pressures, but with the new suspension I would go for the tracking.

Nearside front brake caliper binding slightly.

If its an old MK1 Mondeo then it could be the front subframe as they were prone to being slightly out of true.

A tyre composition fault will make it wander.

Track rod ends are removed to replace them on most cars, so check your tracking as said. Check the tyre wear as if its way out the inside of the tyre may already be mullered.

Does its direction alter if you accelerate / brake?

If so check the lower suspension arm bush. Circular looking rubber bush thingy with a bolt through it. Seem to remember it should look like a large rubber ball trapped in the suspension arm

You didn't say it was an escort. just burn it and get a car. All the dick heads I have ever known have owned an escort. ( not saying you are one but escorts tended to have attracted the dickheads )

It had ONE shock replaced? Confused
Should really replace these in pairs.

Who fitted the spring/shock? You sure they seated the Spring correctly?

Also if ANY hub/suspension/steering rack, Lower arm work is carried out, The wheel alignment should really be checked afterwards anyway.

Pop it into a Kwikfit / ATS / STS and get the tracking checked out. Ask to see the gauges on the car though so they don't just go "Yeh its way out" when it really isnt.

PM me if your unsure on how to read the tracking gauges.

While its up on the ramp, take the opportunity to ask the fitter to check the ball joints, brakes, lower arms and bushes.

Other than that, The one "fairly obvious" thing to check would be tyre pressure. It really can make a difference you have a slightly flat tyre.

Good luck mate.
