PostPosted: 22:28 - 25 Nov 2007    Post subject: Cartegena 07 Reply with quote

Some of you may know i recently went to Cartegena near Alicante in Spain for a 4-day trackday on my Road -> Track converted TL1000R,

Ill do a quick update of what happened and throw in a few pics

First day was difficult, it was a very long track with a few weird turns you dont quite see on UK tracks, that involve a certain amount of braking into corners, but at the end of the first day i was comming along fine and was getting very confident on the track.

Second day and my confidence was high, had a slight oil leak from the clutch gasket but it wasnt too bad and most was collected in the belly pan for me to mop up after each session, after 3 sessionsit started to spit with rain and i thought id call it a day as i didnt want to bin it in damp conditions and ruin my confidence.

Well that night we had rain and alot of it day 3 was a complete washout heavy rain all day, i decieded to go out in the morning and check it out, only me and some other guy went out on the pretty huge circuit but i just couldnt keep heat in the tyres, it was becoming clear that if you didnt have wets your day was done.

Jay12329 got some wets, so i stuck around as a pit bitch and did a few more sessions that day but still couldnt get heat in the tyres, what a bummer.

Day 4 started damp, i was pretty pissed at the day before and really went out in the first session not giving a shit, i was amazed at the grip you can get in the damp i wasnt going any slower than i was dry on day 2, but mid day i was absolutly flying round and quick quite happily hold my own with most of the faster guys on track.

But then whilst going through a really fast left my immobilser wire came loose cutting the engine, it completly upset the bike and i had to go off, and due to the immense rain the day before it was a BOG!
session red flagged and half hour later i was in the pits, fixed the wire but notice my fork seal burst too.

My day was done

Bendy lent me her CBR6 which was a great laugh i must admit, even if the suspention is proper ropey.

Nice! Shame about the off though! Good thing it happened on the track and not the road though eh?

I take it your wooden subframe held up well? And did your various crash protectors protect the important bits?

Dude he said he had to go off the track because of his immobiliser...not because he had a crash.

Cool pics Dave...quite a few background worthy pics there Thumbs Up Sounds like you had a good time apart from the wet day, think your Christmas present should be a set of them Wink

Yes, but when you suddenly lose power, you have no choice but to run off the track, yes? Now where would he have gone on the road? Into a ditch, tree, wall, car or pedestrian most likely.

Believe it or not, your brakes still work when the engine isn't running. He's got mud/sand shit on his tyres and boots so i guess he rolled off the track and pushed it back...

On the road he probably would have pulled the clutch in and slowly bought the bike to a stop unless he was hammering it round a corner...

No, the engine cut out did upset the bike, but only because i was flat out and banked over pretty far, the bike stayed upright after i went into the mud

thats looks like well good fun, 4 days of it!

What is the cost involved in something like that? you travel down with the bike or ship it over?

How did the track compare to UK tracks?

Its expensive, the actually accomadation you get and tracktime price is a bargain.
£599 all included bike shipping etc.

The expensive part was preparing for something like this, i mean i needed spares, fairings, tyres and a new clutch.

Its an awsome track, that when you get used to it you love, and i really have got to grips with proper track riding now i think, i havent done brands for a few years so it will be interesting to compare but so far its my favorite track.
Silverstone is boring as hell, lydden is fun, but a tad small and i havent done brands for so long i have forgotten what its like and plus the last time i was at brands i was on a shitter of a bike.

I was taking about doing a European track with a couple of mates, the price does look good for what you get.

Wave, was it an open pit lane every day?

What was the accomodation like & was it far from the circuit?

Thumbs Up

You had 1-2 group sessions per day lasting 20 mins then it was open pit lane.
The accomadation for this circuit was amazing, i alone had an en-suite bathroom with shower cubicle and nice bath (i used everyday for aches).

It was about 25 miles from circuit, i drove the Hyandai Getz 1.0 to the track and back everyday without a problem.

Open pit lane i thought was brill, i saw one of the most impressive moves ive ever seen on track when i was behind Steve Plater on an R1, looked back saw me all over his ass trying to get past then powerslided about 10 meters leaving a huge black line.

I said nothing of the sort, think you need to read my post properly. All I was saying is that it's a good thing it happened on the track rather than the road, as a track has a massive run off and a road doesn't. Why is that so hard to understand for you? Confused
