A picture/photo of your wheels may give a better idea of the task ahead. Wink

Well i would have to say obviously take the wheels off the bike and rub them down untill all of the old paint has come off and you can see bare metal (well)
use a good primer and let it go off
Get a good colour, spray with air powered air machine or use a can
If using a air powered machine use a top coat ( clear ) should help protect the paint

Now im not too sure how long it would last because of the salty roads and stuff but if it was me i would do it my self
But if it is done profressionaly ie poweder coated etc it would defonitvley last longer

Hope this helps

Its the same process me and that Z6 person explained in your other thread, except if your taking it down to bare metal you should use a etch primer.

Also any local motor factors sell that paint as simonitz is a big aerosol brand, i remember seeing it in places like hickley valtone, autospares, just any general car shops. i dont think halfrauds stock any but there own..

Edit my wrong they do sell the 5 colour silver

most people would sand blast wheels,

You wouldnt wet and dry to bare metal
we just use dry paper/pads, as you'd need some harsh grits to rip off al the old paint
Etch yes, wait for it go go off, then put a layer of real primer over the etch, dont wet and dry unless you mucked it up, then arnt you going to add some paint?! bare metal isnt pretty,?

Hope that helps
and ye powdercoating is the best way as so many stone chips otherwise Smile

Which remove too much material so the wheel bearings will fall out when they are refitted... Wink

I thought that was the norm to remove bearings, and either fit new bearings or reuse the old ones (if viable) whilst doing this..

It is, but no one in their right mind sandblasts alloy wheels & expects the bearings to fit in the (now larger) hole.

The only wheels that are sandblasted are steel.....

I was a pro sprayer and i would sandblast the wheels. I just simply mask off the bearing races/housing with tape and avoid that area. Most wheels are cast and have textured spokes......if you sand it you remove the original texture. Also with sanding you cannot remove 100% of corrosion without removing serious amounts of material.......sandblasting keeps the original texture and also removes all corrosion as it can get to the bottom of any pitting.

If you have your wheels sprayed by a pro they will sandblast them.

The best way would be to paint strip them, sandblast and then powder coat although 2K paint is more than adequate.

You made the right choice getting them done by a pro.....the cans of spray paint you buy are rubbish......the first time you get some petrol or other solvent on your wheel it would pickle the paint and come off.

As i thought Thumbs Up
was going to say. we might of wrecked some gixxer wheels if that was true about not sandblasting!
Cheers

Just leave the bearings in, do all the work then fit new bearings. Either that, or turn-up some blanks.
