Can someone give some idea of this.

I like the look of the mito or the RS but i have heard they need constant top end rebuilds and attention to keep running.

Thanks in advance!

Chris

They make over 250bhp per litre. So they need some attention.

As long as you warm it up properly and use very expensive fully synthetic 2 stroke oil (the current favourite seems to be castrol TTS at about £12/litre) it will last fairly well. Keith on here knows his stuff, I think he checks the rings every 6k km and expects a rebuild every 2nd or 3rd ring check.

So looking after it, if it was your only form of transport, you would need to do a rebuild once a year. If its a toy, more like once every 5 or 6 years.

The only problem is that lots of them are owned and abuse by kids with no money to fix them. So you could buy one and find its got a poor quality and poorly installed piston or big bore kit, or its shattered a piston in the past and damaged the crank, or the bore is knackered...

Basically, I would only buy one if the seller obviously knew their stuff and had owned it for a while (through at least one rebuild) or if it was very cheap, so that I could budget for a rebuild.

Chris theres workshop manuals on here that should tell you the service intervals of both.

you know my fave, the NSR, but to be honest i reckon no matter which of the three you choose if you ride conservatively you should be ok Thumbs Up

Hi

On my RS I change the rings every 6000km. People seem to get away with doing it less frequently on the Mito. The NSR has a lot longer life expectancy for the rings but is also less powerful. Pays your money and takes your choice.

As Robby says they make a lot of power for their engine capacity, added to which unlike larger bikes they spend a lot more of their time being thrashed.

All the best

Keith
