I am new to this chat game so please bear with me. I am an old Brit Iron man, but have recently been seduced by a young japanese model ( NSR 125R ). There is a problem, she is getting older and more tempremental.

She is a UK 1999 NSR125R and it looks like the CDI ( CI626 ) unit has stopped working. I have tested the unit and I get no readings across the green & red/white pins, which according to the manual should be between 2-150Kohms. I have looked on ebay etc but the CI626 seems to be very rare. I love riding her and I am not too bothered about speed and was wondering if I could just fit the restricted CI639 unit.

Yeah, it's a straight swap, but you might loose a bit of power. I swapped from a CI639 to a CI626 but I did have to bodge a new plug onto it.

I noticed you are in Lancashire. I you're anywhere near Chorley, Berties had a couple in (CI626) when I was last there.

CI639 & CI626 are not swappable like that . you need to cross green and black/yellow wire at the CDI 4 wires connector
look my file https://www.geneva-racing.ch/~alains/NSRtips.doc

look at breakers on ebay
but also you may fit an earlier model (CI572) straight away , the only problem is that you have no security stand
about fitting a CI639 download my file https://www.geneva-racing.ch/~alains/NSRtips.doc
if you need further infos , pm
by the way a new can be ordered to david silver spares ref 30410 KBS 901 and will cost £120ish

on top of the carb , where the throttle cable arrive , you see 2 screws . undo them then pull out the throttle (it comes with the cable) . in the center of the throttle you see the needle . the throttle has a hole where the cable go through and at the end it's a lead ball . the throttle has a slit , pull a bit on the ball and make the cable escape through the slit . warning about the throttle spring going nowhere . on the needle you will see a clip , set it on the second notch from the top Very Happy
