I officially have a new found respect for anyone who's suffering out this weather on their motorcycle. The walk from my house to my car is hard enough Laughing. This weather is ridiculous.

I fell over walking down the road yesterday. They don't grit my road or the one next to it so I've chickened out.

Not really that bad with the right kit Thumbs Up.

Roadcrafter one piece suit and just added some bar-muffs as my hands were the only bits suffering. Ok, I did crash last night, but my rear tyre is probably getting on for ten years old!.. and frankly I'd worry more if I was out in my car!

Probably be cold for longer in the car as you have to wait for it to heat up etc Smile.

Get out there and grit it yourself then. Very Happy

Must admit, I am freezing after half an hour at 70-80mph. The other half an hour is town riding so much better. Thumbs Up

I'm still out on it, although not when it's snowed and the road is slushy. Got a new set of textiles recently which are a million times better so this winter feels warmer than last years Laughing

Still doing my 60 mile roundtrip commute on my trusty 125. The low power is good for slippery roads IMO. Bar muffs, thermal liners in my REV'IT textile 2-piece, balaclava, 2 pairs of socks on, Pinlock in the visor. I recently reproofed the jacket and trousers with NikWax so I think I'm ready for the worst of the wetness. Mr. Green

It's not too bad, apart from the ice/snow on the visor on Monday morning and numb fingertips after doing 60mph down dual carriageways for half an hour. Thumbs Up

I ride all year round. Always have done although these days I don't need to but do just for fun.
I don't think any less of those that do not ride all year round as dropping a bike or hurting yourself can be expensive. I like riding in all sorts of weather and find that it challanges my riding skills, thats what I like about riding a bike, it's not how fast I ride but how well I do it. I can have as much fun at -10mph as I can at +100mph.
The only weather I don't like are high gusting winds, but even they wouldn't really stop me.

Started doing a 80 mile commute on the bike this week as my car has finally died and I'm thinking about not replacing it.

I'm still riding, though I did almost drop the bike pushing it into the garage at work this morning as I was the only one coming in on a bike, so the ramp hadn't been gritted Shocked

There's no chance I'm gritting 500m of road on my own! I don't even own a shovel.

It's my first year of riding too so I don't really trust my skills. My cunning plan to become an all seasons biker is to move to the south of france, 9-13C this week... not bad for the middle of winter. If only the pound didn't suck against the euro and i had more money to start with.

I would have rode to work yesterday but it was so cold
(the bike's dash reckoned -4) that my battery didn't have enough oomph to actually turn the engine over Sad

As G says, with some warm gear it and a careful hand it's not an issue.

I'm still on the bike , but I am stupid.

I nearly lost it going in a straight line at 3000 revs yesterday. It just twitched on ice.

Even though I have Rides top rated gloves for warmth and heated grips, my fingers tips were frozen last night, when it was -5C. So much so that I couldn't open the door etc.

I do have handle bar muffs but I find them a pain in the bum, especially when there is light rain drizzle and you need to wipe your visor often.

Its also a pain having to wash the bike down every day to rinse the salt off. The only thing is the hose at work has been frozen for the last 2 days.

I'm also not as confident with my Dunlops, my ER5 always had BT45s and I never had a problem. Whereas the ER6 comes with some Dunlops (not sure which).

Did take the car to work on New Years Eve when it was snowing, but I have ridden in Snow at the beginning of December.

I've been riding through summer and winter for a couple of years now and this year is no different - apart from being my first winter on a 650 instead of a 125 or 50 moped!

Haven't noticed a massive difference with the SLR other than it goes a lot faster and gets me colder quicker! An extra top under my jacket and the heated grips see to that though. Otherwise I've had fun slithering around getting up hills in the snow, pretending to be a snail on roundabouts in case of ice, and getting pissed off with not being able to filter when there was too much snow inbetween lanes.
I'd hate to ride on anything less than my SLR's chunky tyres though, they just ooze confidence and I've only fishtailed a small amount a couple of times when cornering and hitting slippy patches.

Everytime I think about using the car because it's cold I remember the traffic of the day before all stuck in jams and bored senseless, then I get the bike out and do the journey in half the time! Very Happy

Thumbs Up

Never looked into that issue, but it's a pig to start when it's cold and the batterys weak, thats for sure, it's rather annoying timing to need a new battery as I've just thrown a couple of hundred quick at some new mirrors and a replacement fairing panel.

(Didn't drop it, but rather wierdly, all the gloss and half the paint has practically fallen off the right hand side fairing middle section, almost like it's been getting far too hot except it hasn't Neutral )
