Desperate plea here.

I'm still have trouble with the running of the zxr. Today when I rode home in the wet it started dieing completely and not revving past 2k just stumbling and such.

Managed to get it home and going out of nmy mind trying to find the issue. This has happened a few times before and I thought I'd nailed it.

I initially thought electrical as it only seems to happen when wet. I changed the plugs last week and contact cleaned everything and it seemed to sort itselft out so I thought I had nailed it. But its back worse than ever. I've now tried different coils, leads and caps, different cdi/igniter and again contact cleaned everything but its still going on ok so I think it can't be electrical, perhaps an airleak its mimicking the same symptoms if we ignore the only when wet issue. But everything on the carb and intake side look fine and I've gone round and checked everyscrew and clamp also. I've checked the inline filter and that's fine and I've drained the float bowls and they were fine.

Oh but here's the werid thing cylinders 1+2 are not getting that warm. Whilst I burnt my finger on the headers 3+4 I could actually hold 1+2 headers fine. Points back to coils right? Wrong coil 1 handles 1+4 whilst coil 2 handles cylinders 2 and 3 and I've tried alt coils also.

Any any ideas at all would be great. I've got work in the morning! 28 miles away!!! As always thanks

try air box and carbs not sure on the setup on these but they could be full of sh** and nead cleaning if you sure it not eletrical just a posibility

sound like ht leads shorting out or damp try running it with a spare plug in the cap of 1 and 2 see if you get a good blue spark iv had the same problem on a twin 2stroke always happened in the wet then one night started it up in the dark and could see sparks running up one of the plug leads that id all ready changed new lead and plug and a good dose of wd 40 fixed it

Hi. I've tried alternative leads and caps and plugs though that's the odd thing. Also had it runing in the dark with the tank off and couldn't see any blue crossfire or sparking even though it was still damp in the air.

This is why I'm really going crazy with this one.

Nope, not the coils. The two coils run 1&4, 2&3.

If 1 & 2 are staying cold, then its more than likely no fuel. In fact I'll put money on it being fuel, or lack of it.

Get the carbs off, float bowls off and make sure the floats are not sticking and actually letting fuel into the bowls.

I had the exact same problem with 1&2 not firing on one of my previous ZXR's and thought it was electrical, but turned out to be fueling.

If I check that tomorrow and it does turn out to be what you suggested I'm going to good karma you into the next century Barry.

I'l see if plugs get wet also.Just strange it only seems to be when its wet or damp out.

For it to be electrical, it would be either 1&4 or 2&3 that cut out. It wouldn't cut out 1&2, thats not how coils work.

The only thing I'm not sure about it why it would only do it in the wet. Unless its affecting the fuel pump, and the fuel level is just a mm or 2 lower in 1&2 than 3&4, & they have just enough fuel to run on!?

Yeh that's what I figured with the coils and the fact was the same with replacement coils.

You're gonna think I'm incredibly stupid but I did lean out the floats slightly a while back, I did this by eye and not by measuring. But tbh that was a long while a go and its only the last month its been acting up... In the wet and damp.
