PostPosted: 12:56 - 10 Apr 2009    Post subject: CG125 dying/dead Reply with quote

im posting for a friend!he owns a 2006 CG with just 6.5k on the clock!

He broke down on the A3 last night and we have been trying to get him back on the road since 7am today!

He said he was doing 55 last night when the bike felt like it was almost running out of fuel so id started to pull over when the back wheel locked up!

He called the aa out but when they got there the bike started again fine so he started riding back to portsmouth!

The bike started playing up again as he pulled into his mates!

Went to start the bike a few hours later and its is dead!

Cant bump it as the back wheel is locked up!took the head off and the rings and bore look fine!

Oil levels are fine and we only changed the oil a few weeks ago!

When you press the starter you can hear the starter trying to move!

Im thinking it could be the gear box?

Next thing to do is strip down the engine?any ideas?

Much thanks for any help

sounds like you are right though if in nutral is should start anyway my cagiva through its clutch basket springs and seized its gear box, stuck it in nutral and would start straight up.

when you hit the starter is it spining over, start simple then dig deeper maybee post a vid so we can see what you do

Stripped down the clutch and it looks fine! Plates, springs every looks fine! You pull the leaver and the clutch does pull back fine but the back wheel is still locked!

has to be something in the gear box!

im going to tell him to put it in the shop. not much more i can do with my skill set!

tell you something this has been a bitch of a weekend!

Can you get the bike in neutral? see if you can turn the crank as you've got the engine cover off.

I'm confused (easily done!! Laughing) so with the barrel off piston swinging free, does the crank rotate?

If it does, when you turn it, does the rear wheel rotate (even thought it is in neutral)?

Yep, big end gone ... as you say very rare for a CG (with oil in it) to have a big end failure. Bad luck to your mate!! Sad

You have nothing to lose going in there and seeing if you can repair it ... a new big end crank pin, big end shells and a con-rod shouldn't be stupidly expensive. You will need an engineer to split and re-make/align the crank thought ... if it was a high millage engine, I'd say chuck it and get a 2nd hand one, but on one so young, its gotta be worth doing the sums.

You also need to see if it was just a freak thing or if it was lack of lubrication. Check the oil pump and the oil strainer/filter bit ....

BTW, the later CGs were NOT made in Japan IIRC, they were made elsewhere under license ...

the engine is dead!got a call from my mate and the shop called and said that it would cost to much to fix the damage to the engine!

The shop said that it looked like it ran out of oil but there is no way that happened as i was there when he done the last oil change!

We found an engine for £200 plus shipping so we are going to put that in it!

He is the only bloke i know who could kill a 2006 Cg! He did rag it about non stop everywhere he went!also i found out he played around with the carb settings and put a different air flitter on there!

Cant believe i didnt notice the air flitter when i helped strip down the head the other day lol
