Just had the front end off the cbr to replace some crash damaged parts.
Coming out from the behind the clocks there was a three pin connector ending in a big gooey blob of old electrical tape!
I've unpicked it and enclosed was a small Pcb, I can't figure out what is is or what it does. The bike doesn't really seem to care if it's connected or not. Runs and revs fine all lights, alarm and everything appears to work fine without.

Haynes manual seems to have vanished in the recent move and the iPhone doesn't like the 200page online PDFs available.

IIRC its something to do with the 180kph speed restrictor. I know there was a way of derestricting them by looping 2 of the wires. Dont quote me on that though.

That would make sense, although I've already got a mechanical kph to mph converter on so it's never going to reach 180mph effectivly removing the restriction anyway.

Reckon it'll do any damage without it? Or should I just wrap it back up and poke it back behind the clocks?

I'd just leave it out to be honest mate. I think it's been removed from the clocks anyway by the looks of it.

Detector for the speed restrictor, The blue thing with the two black blobs is an optical switch, when a bit of metal attached to the speedo needle goes between the black bits it switches on the restriction. Obviously, with it being outside the clocks, that won't happen. If you cut it off, the ECU will know it's not there, so best leave it dangling.

Yep, as mentioned above, you take it of and the CDI will complain!! ... you now have 2 options ... leave it dangling (as above) or you can fit an appropriate resistor to fool the CDI/ECU its still connected ... Thumbs Up
