.....as a race bike.
Seen a few and wondered what people thought. The few I've seen have had full rebuilds from the ground up with new bits where they were needed, any thoughts? ____________________ My Flickr |

as long as engines strong and frames straight i dont see why not.
its a common thing.
binned my original bike at cadwell recently so i've bought another for my daily ride and im rebuilding the first as a trackbike. rear subframes bent but nothing a blowtorch and a hammer cant solve and my crash protectors saved the engine and frame so some race fairing and new clocks later i'll have a servicable trackbike
much cheaper than returning it to the road. i've just bought 2 small panels for my new bike (side inspection panel and rear tail and together they cost over half its gonna cost me for full race fairing! madness.. ____________________ CBR954RR - Daily toy

It's being built from scratch using a completely new frame, and a mixture of salvage and brand new parts.
The frame has no VIN however, which I'm led to believe could lead to some issues if I were to race it. ____________________ My Flickr |

I believe a lot (if not most) of the race organisers will not let you in unless you have a chassis number. Give them a buzz and ask.
Personally I'd never buy one without a chassis number. I have no problem buying CAT C or D vehicles, or even ones that have been repaired, after all, once they have the new parts fitted they are no different than they were the day they rolled out of the factory. But I'd never buy something without a chassis / VIN number.

Well Thundersport GB will let you provided the frame has never had any numbers on it.(i.e. the numbers haven't be ground off the frame).
The ACU handbook states that the frame numbers must be free from tampering. Suggesting that if there never were any numbers then you should be able to race it. ____________________ My Flickr |

Hmm. I'm waiting for an email back from Bemsee as their regs are a little confusing.
I think it should be ok, but we will see.
Unsure whether to go for a rebuilt bike over one that's been a racer all it's life. ____________________ My Flickr |

Hi
Race clubs started to insist on chassis numbers and non tampering as so many stolen bikes landed up being used for racing.
Check very carefully that the chassis never had a number. While brand new replacement frames won't have a number these are not exactly common.
Pretty much the only reason for tampering with a frame number is to hide its identity, so pretty much only for stolen bikes.
All the best
