S'always worked for me... just tell em not to step on the gas while it's hooked up to the bike...
That said, I've never had the car running when I've done it - always got whoever to kill the ignition - car batteries are usually plenty strong enough to get you going without needing the engine running. ____________________ FAB-Racing MiniMotoSidecars - Back with a vengeance - F1 Class 2011...

Charging voltage is the same for bikes and cars, but there's no need to run the car because a fully charged car battery will crank a bike until the starter motor cooks itself before it goes flat. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

Fine, but don't do it with the engine running.
If the cars voltage regulator is set to charge at a slightly higher voltage than the bikes one, your bikes reg/rec will try to dump the excess voltage from the car alternator to earth. The car will be putting out a lot more amps than your bikes reg/rec was designed to cope with and you could cook it.
EDIT: And don't attach the positive directly to the cars battery positive. On modern cars there is usually a seperate "tag" to attach jump leads to. Once the bike fires up, it'll try to charge the car battery too. On some cars (peugeots for definate), charging directly onto the battery positive can kill the ECU. It'll say in the manual where to attach jump leads. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. Bump starting; you look like a dick in the middle of town, but it gives you a great sense of satisfaction when the engine kicks in. ____________________ Journalist, student, egotist.
