Engine exhaust popping - bike not been started for months.

Just started my bike after about 3 months and the engine seems to be running fine, but the exhaust pops and sounds like it is misfiring on idle. The bike runs fine and sounds fine when the revs are above idle.

Please help.

Duff spark?

Start it up on idle and feel if one pipe is cooler than the other, if so change the plug on that cylinder and see if it helps...

Yeah, investigate the spark plugs first. Sometimes they dont like being sat for a while then started up. Whip them out and a have a look at the electrodes - post the results up here and someone will post a comment Thumbs Up

Changed the plugs and it is still popping away - bang, bang, bang.

Could there be an issue with the carbs ?

the far away one looks rusty, is that a problem with water getting into the plug 'cylinder', could be your HT lead will be corroded or even just very damp? Just a thought when I see then rust on the plug there.

Does it pop all the time or mainly when you close the throttle/change gear whilst moving?

well check the seal between the end can and the end of the pipe, the 07 GT650 had sh*t seals there.. not sure what its called...

In the past when i've had stuff like that happen it's been down to a duff battery. May be wrong though Smile

Take it out for a good run. Should clear the cobwebs out of it.

Closeset plug looks sooty, but a clean should sort that out. Most likely cause is running rich on choke after its been stood for so long.
Other plug does look a bit iffy on its body, but it could be its out of focus rather than heavy rust. Could be the carbs are a bit gummed up if you did not drain them.

If you have changed them. All i would do is get out and give it a dammed good ride. Thumbs Up
