Hi all

just a quickie.....can any one tell me if new cams can be fitted to a 03 zzr1200 without dropping the engine.

I would drop the engine for easier access; it's not that difficult on most bikes.

Don't know about the ZZR; it's doable on my bike but that's a single cylinder. I'd imagine it's a 4cyl 16v (am I right?) and I can imagine it'd be very difficult.

I've don it on a GS500 and I reckon i could do it on my Speed Four, you might as well try.

You shouldn't need much more access than you do to do the valves, so should be ok I'd have thought.

Bob,

You'll probably find the frame runs very close to the side of the engine, meaning that you will have difficulty seeing the timing marks on the cam sprockets when you try and line them up.

Firstly, I reckon you'll struggle to even get the cam cover out while the motor is still in.

But, give it a try none the less, you might be lucky! Wink Thumbs Up

if its like the zxr750 hen you should easily be able to do it,
the early zxr's required you to remove the cams to change the shims,
looking at the manual, it looks like the zzr1200 is the same,
you should have no dramas getting the cams out Very Happy

yep, my xz400 requires you to drop the engine just to get the rear rocker cover off Very Happy
im yet to see a inline 4 that you had to drop the engine though,

basically if you can get the rocker cover off, then you can get the cams out (providing its a ohc engine)

your model is the best system ive ever seen with a shim setup, just push the rocker to the side.. easy access,

Ah, you're thinking ZX7, which uses the bucket over the top of the valves. So yes, on a ZX7 you need to remove the cams. Do the H models use buckets too then, I've never worked on and old H engine?!

But the ZXR J/K/L & M (& ZX9-B) doesn't and you can just slide the rocker out of the way to remove the shim (like you said). It is fiddly, but easily do-able. Thumbs Up

yeah zxr750 h1 ad h2 are cam over bucket over shim,
arse of an idea Very Happy but i suppose 1 less thing not to go wrong Very Happy
