I'm currently in the process of tidying up my CB-1 and I'm debating getting a fly screen for it. Just wondering if they make any difference to wind resistance at all on naked bikes? Or is it more for aesthetics and to stop the clocks from getting bug splattered?

They make a different to flys yes, their arse goes through their head...

Yes they do, they'll deflect some of the wind of your top half and head, it'll stop you getting arm and neck ache on longer journeys...

Made a difference for me as well.
In anything they make it easier to clean the flys off!

To put it simply.. Yes they make a huge difference Thumbs Up

I got one for my bandit 600, i think they're a bit fugly, but they make riding fast so much easier.

For example without my flyscreen a 110mph it felt like my helmet was going to come off!

Put the flyscreen on and did 123mph and all was quite stable and comfortable Thumbs Up this was all on private raod of course Twisted Evil

If anything it just gives you somewhere to tuck in when your going for a hoon, and allows you to cover much more mileage in comfort.

Flyscreens FTW Cool

I find the one on my CB500 just makes the air more turbulent around my head. But I'm a bit too big for the bike in any case.

Cheers guys, I'm mostly concerned about motorway riding. Hopefully won't have too many problems with wind deflected to the top of my head as I'm a have short little body anyway.

You have seen my hornet around town haven't you? Well that huge deflector on mine keeps some of the wind off me... I have had it on all the time so I am not to sure what it is like without but ducking behind the screen doesn't make much different so I guess it is doing its job. Would let you have a go somewhere quiet if I was back from university...

What is it like at the moment? (wind noise wise)

Have you seen my brother around on his cb-1? That has a screen on, talk to him and see if you can convince to let you have a go, he is listed on my facebook if you haven't got him on there.

The Pixie hat on my S4 adds 20mph and cuts so much wind blast off your body.

So when we're talking about fly screens making a difference, does something like this make a difference or are we talking much taller?

Even one half the size of that takes a fair bit of strain off at speed.

One of the ones that fits round a round headlamp and attaches to the headlamp brackets would be cheap and easy to fit to a CB1. They also look like they are meant to be there.

As far as speed goes - not really, but a well designed/placed one should make a decent difference to wing blast.

Flyscreens? Like the netting you cover doors and windows with to keep flies out?

Or Windscreens that screen wind.

Yes they make a difference.
But you should try to get one that is adjustable for tilt, height etc. That will let you fine tune the effect of the screen for you bike and height.
There is something about wing effect/aerofoil/vacuum stuff to deal with. This is what causes most turbulence with big screens.

Just ordered one for my CB400sf from Wemoto (airblade one).

Doing 350 miles between Friday and Monday and should be here Thursday so will put it on and will tell you how much of a difference it makes!

Motorway on a naked bike is really not fun!

Yes, I wanted that hornet when it was sat in fastline, but both the 250 hornets went, and both to people I know! Ah well that was a long time ago.
At the moment, there is no wind, as the brakes haven't been fitted yet, so it's still sat in my garage as I don't fancy using my feet to stop. Hopefully soon, it'll be on the road, it's taken long enough to get it where it is.
I probably should have a gander at your brothers bike sometime, I haven't actually seen it about, but my other half has, I just keep missing it.

I just have vivid memories of hurtling along a coast road on a pithy little 125 in high wind and over 70mph (or so it said) feeling like my upper torso was about to be ripped off by the wind. I'm not the biggest fan of the look of windscreen/flyscreen/windshields whatever you want to call them, but I also like having feeling in my arms, so if they help even a little bit, I'll consider one.

I bought a black Puig screen for £30. If I can find a link I'll post it. I prefer screens on naked bikes but I won't get a huge screen even though it'd be better than a smaller one. Laughing

Nothing like a bit of overkill for a flyscreen, and this was AFTER I'd cut it down!

https://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/impreza_2007/bib231.jpg

Unfortunately the brakets loosened off on the way home, and folded down and hit me on the head at 70 on the M6 Laughing
