Honda NSR 125 Starter motor- HELP!

My starter motor has packed in! The battery is holding a 14v charge and theres a clicking noise coming from a gold box thats in a black rubber casing under my tank behind the air box when I press the ignition swich. Also when I press the ignition switch the headlights dim down and return to normal when the switch is released. The starter motor gets warm when the switch is pressed but theres no action from it. I havent checked the solenoid because I dont know where to find it. Please can anybody help me? Help would be much appreciated. Cheers

Sounds very much like it could be the brushes have warn down/commutatar bars are shorting.
Is the starter even trying/turning a little?

Also try picking up the NSR service manual.

The starter is pretty straight forward and easy to service Smile

Nothing at all from the motor itself mate. Just the clicking noise from a gold box between the battery and air box which im presuming is the solenoid? Cheers for the help. Much appreciated

Okay,
Well the click itself varifies that the starter relay switch is working so we can rule that out for now, you can try applying the battery current directly but chances are the starter needs a little attention.

Its pretty easy to go over,
check out the manual, page 197 +

look chapter about starter repair
but if you hear a click and no effect, on starter , the battery may be has unsufficient voltage
remember this :
bat fully charger 13.2VDC >>> under 12.8 battery for the dump
charge on the bike at 5500 and more 14.2VDC >>> less than that , ckeck regulation at 14.2 or dump the battery

Cheers for the reply. I forgot to mention that before it packed in the starter motor was making a loud screeching noise when it was starting the bike. Dont know if this helps to identify the problem any easier?
