 It's good practice to always do a full service on a bike/car when you get it. So you know that it's been done, and you can also start service intervals properly.

 That's not a bad idea really, considering the oil also ages pretty quickly, and in a 6 month change service on most vehicles, it would be a bit of a waste. As long as it has sufficient oil in it at the moment though..
