Hi could anybody help i noticed a little puddle of what a thought was petrol the last couple of days on my firestorm

Ive now had chance to look at it properly and there is fluid leaking out of the slave cylinder next to one of the bolts

Just wounded if it was just a case of taken the cylinder off and putting a new gasket on or would i have to drain all the fluid out before i took the cylinder off

thanks steve Confused

Most likely the hydraulic seal has gone, in which case the cylinder will have to come off and you'll need to drain (and refill, obv) the whole thing.

You'll probably need a new seal(s) and possibly a new piston which are all not madly cheap, and it's a bit of a job to re-build them right, so if you are not sure what you are doing just replace the whole cylinder with a new one if it's not too spendy.

Edit - P.S. wash the fluid of any painted surface that you'd like to remain painted.

When I changed the seals on my bike I reverse-bled the system using a syringe and tube to inject the fluid up through the bleed nipple up to the reservoir. Worked a treat.

Try bleeding it at the top banjo bolt on the master cylinder.

So pack the area round it with rags, pump three time and halfway through the third pump, crack the bolt open then closed. Hopefully you'll get a bubbling of air coming out. Keep at it, pump, pump, bleed, pump, pump, bleed until you are getting a squirt of fluid every time with no air, then go back to bleeding the slave cylinder.

Hydraulic fluid from a car shop should be fine. Dot 4 is the standard it's made to, one is pretty much the same as the other
