Evening all,

I have a Honda Cityfly 125, and the brake light doesn't seem to be working.

However, when i press the rear brake to the point of almost snapping it works.

So obviously the bulb isn't the issue. Is it something to do with a connector somewhere? Can something have gotten dirty and clogged?

I have done a search and can't find much, so any help is appreciated. Cool

There will be a switch at the back of the pedal. just need to adjust it.

Usually its a case of screwing it a bit.

on the back of the brake lever theres a small swicth with 2 wires on it, pull the wires off and touch them together....if the brake light comes on then the swicth needs replacing Thumbs Up easy to check

Front brake light witch shouldnt cost more than a couple of pound

Front brake light switch is not usually adjustable and is probably buggered. Maybe some dirt/corrosion in it. Could try reviving it by removing it from the brake lever assembly and giving it a bath in contact cleaner whilst operating it vigorously.

Rear switch is like a 'plunger', adjusted by turning a knurled screw that raises or lowers it. Sounds like you need to lower it. Might also be dirty, and mine really benefited from a bath of contact cleaner after 30'000 miles or so as it was turning on when first pressing the pedal, then off/flickery when pushing down a bit more. Since you have a drum brake on the rear, adjustment is needed every now and then as shoes wear or you adjust the pedal free play to compensate for it etc.

Front brake light switch - follow the wires to the front brake lever and you'll find the switch. Some are a round bullet-shaped switch that plugs into a hole in the lever mount others a square block type that if fitted under the lever with a small bolt.

In either case it's most likely the switch plunger is stuck in. Remove the switch and give it a good dose of wd40 and scrub with a toothbrush. You might have to tease the plunger back into operation or you can dismantle the switch and clean it properly. Watch because they fly apart especially the round ones.

Rear brake light is worked by a similar effort except it's pulled by a light spring. Usual problem for these is just like the front switch - they fill up with road dirt.

Un-hook the spring from the pedal, un-plug the wires from the loom and then pull the switch out from it's mount in the frame - you might have to un-screw it but most just wiggle out.
Strip this down by and clean it thoroughly. Don't be surprised to find extensive corrosion to the contact ring, just clean it up with some emery & wd40. Re-assemble it and plug it into the wires to check it works. If it does just re-fit it to the bike and adjust the height so that the brake light works after a small amount of travel on the pedal.
