Wet sanding is the process which flattens the orange peel effect of spray paint or clear coat to give (eventually) a high shine. Its also used to remove swirl marks and light scratches.

Essentially a few days after clearcoating (the longer the better) you use coarse -then increasing fine wet/dry sanding paper to even out the rough clear coat surface. Usually followed by some fine polishing compound (or T-cut for cheapos like me). It does require a lot of elbow grease.

Initially it appears to utterly ruin the surface of the paint/clearcoat, and creates a huge mess - but as you get to the T-cut stage it starts to look as good as professionally done painting.

I learned how to do it while painting guitars, but its a very useful technique.

So you did: Filler, sand, colour?
Should it not go: Strip, fillter, sand, prime, sand, colour, laquer?

It looks like an improvement in the pics but a bit of effort with the wet or dry and it could've been a half decent job. I can still see the filler.

You can sand the filler down (dry) before you put the paint on though!

If your attitude is you cant be arsed to spend a bit of time doing a proper job on your tank, then how well is the rest of the bike looked after?
Look what you can achieve with a little bit of effort!

Can you open the filler cap or has the drying paint got into it and sealed it shut?

The tank had a few dents so lots of prep sanding and then priming, more filling then final prime coat. Wet flat with 1200 paper. Put the colour on in even coats. wet flat with 1200 paper then use a paste like G3 or finesse it with a mop on a polisher or drill. Then put the clear coat over the top and do the same. Just takes time and a bit of effort like doing most things right do!

How a tatty old bros I got my better half ended up!
