Wonder if anyone can help.

Just won a cg125 on the bay and asked the guy for the reg so I could do a text check on it to make sure its not a write off.

He gives me the reg but the the text check is saying there is no dvla or police record found for it.

His explanation is that its been sat for a long time, its only had one owner with its first old style log book.

I've never come across this, is this something dodgy I should walk away from?

He just sent me a pic of the bike with its plate and he's not sent it me wrong.

Hmmm

Even if he sent me the VIN, how could I check that?

the text check isn't that comprehensive.

I have bought a bike with the exact same problem with the text service, but turns out ok. Yes there is a point where if the bike has been off the road for so long, usually not being sorned its disappears off DVLA's radar

As above, my old DT125 wasnt showing on text check etc, again the bike hadnt been registered on the road for a while. Sent off for logbook and came through no problems.

wouldnt put me off if everything else checks out

I got a bike a while back and only had an illegible tax disk and a vin to go off (no V5 and no number plate came with the bike)

I did searches on the VIN and nothing came back
(It was also an "odd" looking VIN as it had been an import)

I eventually got the reg from DVLA after they took the old rust marked tax disk (the barcode and issue number were thankfully still legible) and it tied in with what they had as the VIN so there was no drama- just a £25 new V5 fee

A V5 eventually came through the door - bingo bongo it now appears when I search on the VIN

From an outsiders point of view it certainly looks like after a certain ammount of time they possibly "dissapear" or possibly get archived or something

Wouldn't worry too much TBH

Regards
Rob
