Posted: 09:39 - 01 May 2012 Post subject: Scratches in black plastic |
 |
|
In a couple of dozy moments I managed to scratch both my mirrors (at separate times) on walls as I was moving the bike. It's left scratches in the black plastic surrounds.
Is there any way of removing them, smoothing them out so they are unnoticeable? I assume it's going to be hard/impossible as the plastic has a sort of dimpled surface finish to it and a smoothed out part would be as noticeable as scratches?
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance |

That is a polish for plastic screens etc. It would remove the 'dimples'.
There is nowt you can do for it except polish it out with wet&dry to smooth it.
It is difficult to repair and normally they get replaced for cosmetic appeal.
If you don't mind then just rub it out.
You will not see it personally anyway as you sit on the opposite side. (Don't you?) ____________________ W-ireless A-rtificial L-ifeform L-imited to O-bservation P-eacekeeping and E-fficient R-epair |

Posted this before, here:-

To save you the trouble:-
What you need is some cabinet makers hard wax, it comes in a variety of wood colours and black, one stick is about the size of a Mars Bar.
All you need to do is shave some small pieces off the wax stick with a Stanley knife. Roll the pieces between your finger and thumb until they become soft, (the heat from your hands will soften the wax, although don't expect it to go as soft as, say, plasticine).
Once the wax has softened, work some into the scratches, don't worry if you apply too much.
Once you've filled the scratches with the wax, you can scrape any excess off with your finger nails or a plastic scraper.
Once you're happy polish over the area with some wax polish, ie Turtle wax, this will remove any smears.
This is the stuff you need:-

It's £5.99 + £4.95 P&P, if you ordered it from here:-

Pick the "Stick Ebony" colour!
I've seen "Liberon" branded products in most of the big DIY shops, so you can, probably, avoid the postage. ____________________ "Everybody needs money, that's why they call it money!" |

I watched a guy fix my scratched me mirrors right before my eyes. He rubbed them down a bit to give a key, then sprayed them with an aerosol which was some plastic texture coating that went on like paint. He flashed that off erith a heat gun then sprayed them black on top. I inspected then closely and I couldn't tell they had been repaired. Whole operation took 20mins or so. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'
