Anybody selling a discontinued restrictor kit for a yamaha 600 fazer? 1999 reg
I'm having great trouble in finding a restrictor kit that is not from the rip off company FI International. That company is a JOKE considering you are only paying for the certificate that you DONT even need!
Can any fellow bikers help me out here...?

Hi.

There are 3 'easy' ways of restricting it.

Washers in the inlet.

Different needles and springs with a restrictor plate to go in the top of the carb

Throttle stop.

Cant remember the dimensions off the top of my head but will have a look later.

Check Ebay regularly, a set will come up!

I've found 4 washers 38mm in diameter on my bench in work, crazy as it seems i don't know if they will work if i drill the hole in the centre big enough. i think its around 12mm??

Essentially any engine is restricted by the amount of fuel and air that it can suck in.

So for an IL4, I'd guesstimate 14mm holes, purely on the basis that:

GS500 restrictor = 20mm^2 * 2 = 800mm^2

So 14^2 * 4 = 784mm^2

I'll even sell you a bit of paper that guarantees(*) that you won't see more than 33bhp at the crank. Only £200! Wink

(*) Guarantee is non-binding and for novelty purposes only.

Took me about 45 mins from running to running. Its really not hard!

Just undo the carb rubber straps and the air box straps. Make sure you also undo the 3 air box screws.

Pull the carbs off and move them up. You can now put the washers in!

Procedure to fit the kit.

Remove fuel tank
Remove 2 side pannels on the bike (the one which has the seat lock in) that are held in by one 4mm alen key.
Undo the screws that clamp the airbox onto the carbs
Pull back airbox
Undo screws that clamp the carbs in the lnlet rubbers
Pull back carbs
put the kit in the inlet rubbers (it will be very tight, this is normal)
Carbs back on
Reverse order the rest.

The washers are held in by the carbs, they have no were to go once they are in the rubbers. Here is a shitty paint diagram.

Do you know if installing these washers is bad for the engine, i've heard it gets the exhaust really hot and does more harm than good.

It really depends on the engine and the carbs.

The washers aren't doing anything magic, they're just restricting how much mixture can be sucked through the carb. In theory it shouldn't mess up the fuel mixture and make it run lean. You'll just reach a point where the flow of mixture can't keep up with the volume needed to keep filling the cylinder.

In practice though, you may find it's messing with the mixture and you'll have to put bigger jets in the carbs. Some restrictor kits come with different jets or even modified carb slides. If you've just slapped washers in, then keep an eye on the spark plug colour and modify the jets as required.

The thing is, you should be doing this anyway, even with a stock bike, as running lean will overheat your engine and cause Badness.

Don't fret about it, diagnose it.

What they said, no, My Xj600 Runs fine with just the restrictors in it(1990 so relatively old) and a friend with a 2000 SRAD 600 had only washers in his for 2 years and that ran fine when it was restricted, and now runs just as well as new with the restrictors removed, and they were just washers aswell so thats 2/2 1 old 1 newish no problems

Hi, I'm having a go at this. How is it possible to pull back the airbox? Is that only possible once the airbox/carbs clamps are removed?
