Now and then when I come to a halt if ive finished my journey or whenever I put it in neutral (usually happens more when the bikes been ridden a while) it will sometimes refuse to go into neutral.

I can cure this a lot of the time by rolling back with the clutch in and then ride forward a bit with a bit of clutch and then re try usually fixes it, however this is starting to take a few more attempts and is getting worse.

If I put it in neutral while still rolling it will always find neutral straight away. What do you rekon the problem is? Gear box oil may need changing as I do not think it has been done for a while, or could it be the full gear box thats at fault Crying or Very sad

Thanks H

Mine does the same - never bothered me though. Only happens on my drive for some reason.

Some bikes are like this, don't worry. Perhaps your clutch cable has a bit too much play, but I've had a few that were always like it. It's not a Honda by any chance?

Dragging clutch makes it worse.
Sometimes a short rev up to 2000rpm then applying lever pressure as the revs drop help it to click in.

I figured it out through experimentation and i bet i can get any stubborn honda into neutral even after years of not owning one. I always thought it was a unique skill, but i soon found out it's one all honda riders develop pretty quickly Laughing

It's not a fault. It's a "feature".

Some bikes are virtually impossible to put into neutral while stationary with the engine running.

The Honda guess was easy. Over the years I've had 5 Hondas, 2 Suzukis, 1 Yamaha & 1 Kawasaki. Guess which brand was the worst for finding neutral.

It is just a case of technique & just the right amount of revs.

One other thing that might help is adjusting the height of the gear change foot lever. It has to be in the right position for you & your keft boot.
