I thought I would post a pic of the reason my bike (GPZ600R) recently broke down. Drained almost a litre and a half of water/rust out of the tank

how does this collect without going into the engine?
if it is due to the small filter at the fuel tap, why wasn't that clogged beyond function about 20 years ago?
i've always heard about crud in petrol tanks, but that is something else. is it all rust yeah? ____________________ CBT - 17/09/12 * Theory - 23/10/12 * Mod1 - 05/03/13 * Mod2 - 25/03/13 * BOSH!

+10 man points for leaving a jug of petrol next to a live plug socket
Honestly if that is all rust i'm surprised that fuel tank still holds the stuff without leaking. |

That is some serious rust!
I'd dry it out and keep it, handy iron oxide powder, fireworks or something surely? ____________________ Fzr-600 1999 |

Someone told me that for every 5 mil of rust there is only 1 mil of actual corrosion so rust always looks worse than it is.
Not sure how true that is, but even so.......fuck me Thars some rot there. |

What bike is that? Only way I can think that you can get that much water in the tank, unless it came out of the pump, is if your filler cap well drain is blocked. Rainwater would then fill up the well and get past the seal into the tank. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'
