 |
|
Trying to find piston/barrel/head for a GPR125 which is apparently the same as the TZR and DT125R models.
I can find a piston.
I cannot find the others.
PJME do a big bore kit, but fuck that. Way too pricey and want to be able to sell it as learner legal should I sell it later on.
Where do people find these parts?! |

Paddy,
So you want a head, a barrel and gaskets, piston, rings etc?
Normally when one does a top end rebuild, one just replaces the piston, rings, little end bearing, gudgeon pin, head gasket and base gasket.
Generally speaking, the only way that you can get a barrel is to buy a second hand one. ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F

I'm gonna check the barrel and put pics up here, I'm sure one of the pros can tell me if it can be replated or bored out |

Yeah saw the Athena 170.
Like hell am I doing that. It has a carb that needs adjusting if you change the kit, I am no good with carbs
I know this is probably a dumb question but the engine has stood for a while... the top end and barrel off, what can I put in the engine to kinda, make things lubricated before I fiddle. Can I put 10w40 in there and just rotate the crank or is it not advised... |

I don't like tuning carb's either and never again on a 2smoke, as i have enough paperweight pistons in my garage.
If the engine has been stored with the top end off for ages, you really want to be hoping that it was stored somewhere dry and warm and a shit load of 2stroke oil was poured into the cases as well.
If it was stored dry in a damp or cold shed, it's a good bet that the crank oil seals have died. Id turn the engine over a few times slowly while holding the con rod, and if after a couple of turns the rod is covered in transmission oil, then you know the oil seals were fucked.
TBH I'd probably just split the cases and replace the main bearings and oil seals anyway in this situation, as it's not that expensive to do and if the crank itself is ok, then your on a winner anyway. To put a new top end on and then find out almost straight away when you go to start it that the crank oil seals are screwed, would be a massive pain in the arse. |
