I have a sh300 honda (57 reg) and am servicing it but cant find the level plug for the final drive. I can find the plug to fill up which is high up. when i put a screwdriver in i can see oil but looking around i cant find a bolt in the right area to look like a level plug.
has anyone changed the oil. know the capacity?
thanks Vince

In case the picture ever disappears in the future; the check bolt is quite low, only slightly higher than the drain bolt, and the capacity is 300cc from disassembly and 280cc from draining. Torques on all bolts are 13Nm. And check bolt is 2x as long as filler and drain bolts, don't swap them.

thanks for that. it helps so much.
i have been searching for ages on the net. there is little information about the bike out there.

i thought the check bolt looked like a drain plug or a bolt to hold the cases together. when i had the bike apart earlier.

do you have a pdf copy of the manual i could copy?

I don't, but the English manual can be bought from David Silver, Wemoto etc., part code 62KTW00 for SH300 07-10, 62KTW00Z for 11-, £40 well spent if you own the bike.

I bought the air filter today and fitted in the snow....tried to start the bike and nothing.
could you tell me how you are supposed to start it. should it be hold the brake? i tried to hold both front and back brake. press the starter but nothing. i can see the heated grips flashing lights.

i think it must have a fault. maybe the alarm or trasponder in the key maybe. when i picked it up it was dodgy. it took a couple of attempts to turn the key and then start.

Rear brake must be held in hard. The rear brake has two switches, one for the rear light, another, further in, for ignition. Front brake is neither enough nor necessary, it has no connection to ignition.

thanks for your help. i have a fault. i can hear the relays click as i pull the lever in. first must be the brake light, then the start. so both seem to be working but as i try to press the starter nothing. i must have a problem some where else.
i will be trying to find out what to check next.

thanks i have the bike started, serviced and took it to mot. the only issue is that the vin plate was damaged when it was stolen. does any one know if there is a frame number any where else on the bike. on all the other bikes that i have owned they have been at the headstock but i have looked at all the normal places and access covers but no success. i have found the vin tag under the rear wheel.
thanks

Engine serial number on final reduction case near rear wheel (this is probably what you found); this is near the beltcase separation leverage gap, but further towards the rear wheel.

VIN is right side of frame just in front of rear shock absorber (visible from underneath); I guess this is what was damaged?

Registered number plate is attached on left side of frame in front of rear shock absorber (similarly, visible from underneath)

There's also a throttle body identification number, stamped on lower side of throttle body.

No indication in manual of whether these are all correlated, or whether Honda can match them up.

thanks. it was the vin plate that they had damaged not the frame so i am off to get a new one made. the other side is the frame which has the number stamped on. thanks. it was so easy to miss.
