Hi guys.

I was wondering if anyone on here has any tips for removing the inner part of my brake pistons. They are from a tokico 4 pot calipers and the material seems to almost be attached to the pistons probably just through wear.

I'm having to replace my pistons so would like to get them out.

Thanks for any help Thumbs Up

Are you meaning the piston seals? Use something sharp or thin that one damage the rubber too much, push it into the corner or lip of the seal and push it out.

Thanks. Unfortunately I wasn't meaning the seals. It's the part of the piston that touches the back of the pads. I think it's actually attached to the piston itself.

I would need to see a picture, they sound different from the style I've seen. All the calipers I've seen are just the piston directly onto the pad of pad shims.

Is it the rubber/plastic inserts or the cork type material ones.If it's the cork, I don't think you'll get them out intact. They seem to be bonded in.

Hi

Another vote for the brown ones (look like they are made out of fine chipboard material) not being removable. They do seem to degrade over time though.

Presume they are there to insulate the caliper from the heat of the pads.

All the best

Keith

I went through this when i rebuilt my ZZR calipers last year. To remove them, you need to drill a teeny hole in the centre of the insert, then screw in a long self tapper, grab it with pliers, and give it a yank. They may come out in one piece, or they may break up. Either way, dont worry about it. You dont need to have them in, but remember to use plenty copperslip on the back of the pads.

Kawasaki do not sell them on their own - they are sold as part of the piston, so you would need to buy a full set of pistons to replace all the inserts, which would cost a 'kin fortune. Hope that helps
