My rear brake is annoying me. It's old, mucky and broken. I can break using it, but it's just a bit... sticky and is quite a bit on/off rather then a gradient.

Is it a job that a v. inexperienced person could do without a proper workshop if he had the parts, or do you think i should take it to a garage?

It's not the hardest job to do by any means but get yourself a manual first if you're not sure of how to do it.

Drum brake?

Easy. Dismantle, clean, lube ressemble.

I did a howto for beginners using a Honda drum brake but they're all much of a muchness.

You might even find that if you oil the pivots and wiggle them about, it smooths off easily. It might even be the lever pivot rather than the brake itself getting gummed up and stiff.

I think i need to replace the rod that goes from the pedal to the brake because it's bent. I'll also need to replace a few things that have got very rusty/worn.
