Hi,

I was wondering on any recommendations for an aftermarket rear shock for a Hornet 98?

The stock one is absolutely shite - I'm feeling every single imperfection on the road, and so are my bollucks!

Cheers

Expensive - budget on £200+ for used, £350+ for new.

Try Penske, hagon, nitron, ohlins etc,. What do model specific forums tend to use?

Cheapest way will be to figure out which shocks will fit from different bikes with better shocks.

As Dr Brago said, it will be cheaper to suss out which other (better) shocks from other bikes fit.
For instance, a CBR600RR 03-04 shock will fit a Bandit. Dirt cheap that way, better than dropping £300 on a shock. Mr. Green

Nitron sport is about the best value. Hagon are a little too cheap and unadjustable, Nitron will make a quality shock for you to your specifications, and are based in Oxfordshire.

Grumpy are you a member of the Hornets Nest? Those guys are really knowledgeable on all things Hornet.

But as above, Ohlins and Hagon are good.

I fitted a Nitron to my bike a few months ago and I'm really pleased with it. I fitted the cheapest one they do but splashed out the extra on a remote pre-load adjuster as my shock is totally buried if you wanted to adjust that part.

Hagon ARE adjustable. I had a replacement on my ZX6R. Just like the cheapest Nitron shock, the rebound and compression damping controls are all done on 1 dial. Set and forget, and they're rebuildable. Mine was £260 IIRC. Nitron are very good for the pricepoint as well, so if you want to fork out the extra £80, it might be well worth doing, in addition to doing the oil and seals for the forks as well to give your suspension a full refresh.
