Hello folks,

So, checked my MOT paperwork, turns out it was due in April so need to get it done asap.

Now, few minor problems and I need to know which will cause a fail on the MOT:

Horn doesn't work
No red reflector on back
1 fork seal leaking for last 10 months

Are these gonna be fails or will they just be advisories?

Reflector and Horn aren't really issues since they're cheap, but that fork seal, well, I cant do it myself 'cos I don't have the gear or space and the cheapest a garage has quoted me is £150.

By the way, fork seals aren't hard to do - I did both of my OHs in a couple of hours last Saturday. Total cost? Around £35ish but I did replace both dust seals and retaining clips as well as the seals themselves.

Take the forks off and take them in.

My garage did it for £30 labour with £12 for the pair of seals. I provided the oil.

Piece of advice: Order some OEM seals.

Reflector - £1
Horn, wire horn to battery and to new button on handlebar - £1 for switch and £1 for wire.
Fork, either get it fixed or buy a neoprene cover for each leg, lift the dust seal, pack with cotton wool and reseat. Fit covers over fork legs and cable tie on.

Solved. Laughing

Perfect guys, thanks!

Wire a new switch -> Buy a push-bike reflector -> find something absorbent and bodge it under dust caps!

legendary Thumbs Up

Far more complicated than it needs to be.

Simply wrap the offending fork in bin liner and duct tape so it can still compress freely, but the leak is covered up.
The examiner isn't allowed to remove it, and he can't fail what he can't see.

Got both my leaking forks through their mot no problem.

Are the forks pitted? If not, shove a piece stiff plastic or a feeler gauge down between the stanchion and the seal. Sorted my leaking fork out a treat, hat tip to stinkwheel.

I got 12 reflectors for 99p off ebay that sit in my tool box for the MOT's

I borrowed the horn from my other bike that has its own 9v battery so that was free.

I drained all the fluid from the fork before the MOT, no fluid no leak. So that was free as well.

You may well think your King Bodge the 3rd from Bodgeingham but i am way more pikey when it come to this shit.

Removing all fluid would result in a complete lack of damping and be a fail...

A fine. Either £30 or £60.

Keggy, sometimes rear lights count as reflectors, depends on the bike/tester.

I don't need one as its on a daytime mot thing....although no mention of this on the pass sheet Wink
