My dad purchased this bike from a 'man down the pub' in a box of bits when I was 6 months old (23 years ago). I think its a Italjet mini mini bambino from the 1970's. He rebuilt it to a running bike 20 years ago. Me and my little sister used it up until I was 12ish. I have some great memories of riding straight into a nettle bush, and burning my leg on the exhaust, it was great fun, this is the bike that got me into riding.

I have recently dug it out of the wendy house, this is what it looks like.

I've got the seat, which need recovering. I've also got the exhaust, which needs spraying.

Just to show how small this bike is, here it is against my thunderace:

This is where I am at the moment, luckily everything so far is quite free, maybe thats 20 year copper slip!?. I love how simple this bike is!

I finish work at 12:30 on fridays, so i'll strip it down to the frame tomorrow.

The bike above is not the same bike. Its a italjet JC5A I think. I did abit of research on them a couple of years ago and while trying to find out that little bit of info i typed JC5A into google and guess what image pops up!

Thread is here: https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?p=2582312

Google image:

Anyway today went very smoothly, no problems encountered.

The engine easily came out:

Before I knew it everything was in bits

https://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y229/hallnd/IMAG0016.jpg

I did a few jobs; cleaned one of the rusty wheels, cleaned out the carb and air filter, removed the cylinder head and barrell. The plan is to work out what I need, order, and get cracking.

For the time being the utility room is its home

Here are a few pics of the engine, got a shot of some numbers I'm not sure what they refer too. The barrell isn't in too bad condition.

By the way its a 50cc automatic.

I've got a few ways to go about this one but I'm going to stick to my plan. The bike will have fresh rubber, paint will be as close to original (same colour scheme) as I can make it. Everything will be sanded back repainted. Old leather jacket/new foam to recover the seat. Spray the exhaust ect

I could send everything off and get it powdercoated, but I dont want it to be too mint. I would want my [future] kids to be able to ride it/crash it like i did when I was a youngster.
