DO sv's have very heavy clutches normally? Either was this cannot be normal what I've got, my arm/tendons are in agony after just an hours ride, quite hard to pull the clutch in and after a while its taken its toll.

Anyway to make this less so? Is it just a case of slackening the cable or is it time for a new one?

Maybe needs lubing somewhere? Help!

My GSXR required 2 hands once Shocked

Cable will need lubing, perhaps also the actual worm gear that actuates the push rod.. there should be an adjuster on there also.

For the cable, no idea.

For the worm gear, no idea.

I just used a bit pot of grease that my dad has. Laughing

No. Copper grease has slivers of copper in it, which are abrasive. Copper grease should be used for applications with minimal movement and high temperatures.

Use LM grease to grease the linkages, and 3 in 1 to oil bowden cables. However, if the cable is so screwed that you're getting arm pump from pulling the clutch, I'd suggest replacing the cable.

I use one of these with GT85 teflon spray lube

Also, make sure that the pivot bolt area is clean and properly lubricated with the proper grease (not copaslip).

Halfords sell bearing and high melting point grease. It is always handy to have a pot of each in the cupboard for not much outlay.

I guess it depends on what you are expecting/used to, but no, the SV doesn't have a notably heavy clutch.

Assuming your cable is free to move (check that) a massive difference - positive or negative - can be made with adjustment of the worm gear mechanism. There is a locknut and flat head screw arrangement that adjusts the 'slack' in the system.

Do you have a manual for the bike? The angle the little arm is set to is critical to good operation of the clutch. The clutch can feel horrible, even 'problematic' if that angle is out.

The correct way to adjust the clutch is to wind out the lock -nut mechanism, set the arm angle via the cable adjusters, then re-adjust the lock-nut mechanism so it has just a little slack.
