According to How Many Left my bike is the ONLY Strada 750 still on the roads on the UK Exclamation

I can't believe that. Someone must have seen one around. Mine is a 1994 model. There are supposed to be 2 others SORNed. Anyone know of one?

How accurate is this data?

As with all large government databases, there are errors in this dataset (especially since quite a lot of the data for older vehicles is based on paper records that were originally maintained by local authorities).

The most common error that crops up is vehicles that don't have exactly the correct model variant recorded on their V5 registration document. For example, a special edition Peugeot 205 Gentry might only have Peugeot 205 recorded on its V5. This can lead to some model variants appearing to be rarer than they actually are.

The key to understanding whether or not the data is accurate for your particular model is to check the model name on its V5 registration document. If it's not what you expect it to be, then it's likely that the DVLA statistics for that model aren't very accurate!

This happens more often with older vehicles, especially for those that would have originally been registered in the 1970s and earlier.

I'm about to buy a Strada 750 that's been off the road since 2004, so that'll be one extra on the roads soon hopefully, how has the Strada been for you noobRider?

I could quite believe their to be so little of these bikes on the road, finding information or any for sale is very hard.

I really didn't mean to buy it. It was against the wall at the local bike shop when I was looking at other bikes but every time I went back I looked at it more and it grew on me.

It's a heavy beast compared to the sv650 I trained on and I find it hard to push it around and over the kerb into the garage. When you rev it at standstill it moves sideways with the torque. It's taken ages to get the jetting / fuel mix right and I'm not sure the electrics are rain-proof. I've only managed to ride it a handful of times since getting it so I'm not sure if the problems I initially had with it were the rain or the jetting.

It's not lightening fast and it doesn't shoot off at the traffic lights but it gets to whatever speed you want it to pretty quickly and the pulls pretty well. You can potter around town in 1st or 2nd without changing gear with no problems, which is good as changing gear is a bit clunky and you have to be very positive. If you use the choke to get it started you have to take it off almost immediately. It's very windy riding at speed with no protection.

The more I look at it and ride it the more I'm falling in love with it. She has huge character and responds beautifully when you get it right. I feel we're beginning to trust each other. I don't think you'll see any others when you're riding around.

If the data is anything to do with the DVLA you'd be better off reading the back of a box of cornflakes.

Was the problem with the fuel/jetting there when you purchased it, and I've read elsewhere that they don't like being left out/used in the wet. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for it and whats the mileage like?

I heard that about the electrics but the only definite thing I can say about that so far is that it didn't want to start after a good hosing down. It was fine in the rain today.

Mine has a non-standard air filter supposedly and wasn't right at all when I picked it up from the shop. It took them all over the Christmas hols to sort it out, fitting different sized jets and adjusting the mix. I still needed to tweak the mix a bit. Since then it's been sweet.

It's done 29,000 km and I probably paid too much for it: £1,000 + my GN125, so probably about £1,700. He put new exhausts on it and he did replace one of the ECUs (or whatever those electronic ignition control boxes are called) for free while he was doing the jets as it went bad and they are £120 - £200 depending.

One other bit of character: you can't put the sidestand down while sitting on it. You have to get off first as it's too far forward, the sticky-out bit is too small, and it flicks up unless you're very careful Smile

It's very inaccurate. There are only 6 RXS 100s Laughing

The MZ I bought recently doesn't even have a model on the V5. Just 'MZ' as the make and the engine capacity.

As does my MZ, and my GPZ500, and even though my CX500 hasn't got the model in the V5, it does however have it in the 'Model' box in MOT slips, unlike the GPZ and MZ which have nothing about the particular model on their MOT slips.. odd!

Saying that though, the CX500's engine number starts with CX500, so that could be why the MOT slip can detect as much.

Mines still sorned, so their data must be wrong. Mines currently got the gear box off for a return spring change on the gears, I'm getting there slowly, hopefully have it on the road in the next few weeks.

What was wrong with the jetting on yours, and do you know much about tuning the carbs? I feel I may have to do mine as when I got it home and fired it up, it would only run when the choke was out, it would die whenever I put the choke back in. Maybe it was due to having been sat for 9 years, I dunno...

According to the bloke that looks after our bikes and who I bought it from, it's got non-standard air filters which allow more air through. The jets needed to be bigger to allow for this.

I don't know anything about tuning the carbs and I'm not sure this bloke knows enough about these either. I'm thinking of taking it somewhere with a proper dyno to get it properly set up and get the carbs balanced, seeing as I've just tweaked them by eye.

I've found it's very sensitive to the choke. After it's left for a few days it needs a lot to start but I need to take it off very quickly, or almost all off. I'm still learning it's ways Smile

It sounds like you might need to get any muck and water out of the fuel tank and clean the carbs to get it running right. There's a garage near us that I'm sure has a water leak into a fuel tank. Several people I know have had problems after filling up there.
