Quick question.

Can I start tapping into my ignition wires for a switched voltage, or is this going to play havoc with the HISS?

Would I be better off taking it from the lighting circuit or something?

I'd always take it from the tail light. That way, should something go wrong, you've only lost your taillight. Nothing too bad.

I would also run the extra circuit from a relay, so the feed from the lighting circuit has almost no extra load on it and whatever accessory's you are fitting take power from the battery through a suitable fuse.
Manufacturers are known to use wiring that's just upto the job, add more load to it and it can cause issues.

Tail light tap and relay (as belt an' braces).

Cheers, guys.

Probably should have explained what I was doing. Laughing

For all high draw stuff I normally use a relay switched by the lighting circuit.

However I'm fitting a voltage display (will hopefully warn me when my reg/reg inevitably dies), so was looking for a switched voltage with the smallest loss, this seems to be the ignition switch, which only drops about 0.2V, compared to the lighting circuit which drops about 0.5-0.7V.

Ah ok, if it's one of These like I have on mine then they use an absolutely tiny amount of power, you should be able to bridge that into just about anything.

Nah its one of these.

Not worried about it sapping power, just me being OCD and wanting it to display an accurate voltage. Laughing
