So I'm working on my van to swap the engine out. Haynes says to remove the manifold bolts and engine mounts....
Er can I really trust them........?! ____________________ Honda H100S2 Rebuild - https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=253852 |

Can you not put concrete blocks under the wheels instead/as well?
When I had to work under my van, I used to stack two concrete blocks on top of one another, then one, then a house brick and use that as a ramp to drive it up onto them. Chock the wheels and Bob's your uncle.
Same effect could be achieved using a jack. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Thanks for the helpful tips and sad jokes. Having to have the van so high up off the ground as the engine is being removed from the bottom just makes me feel all rather erm, claustrophobic!
Currently the front is about half a metre off the ground. ....! ____________________ Honda H100S2 Rebuild - https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=253852 |

Dig a pit in the garden, park van over the top. That way, you wont have to jack it up and should the engine fall out, it wont break on whatever it hits.
Obviously stick a thick steel sheet under the axle stands to stop them sinking in the ground.
Then push van back the way it came and find a crane to lift the engine out of the hole.
This is probably a shit load more work than you have planned for, but i suppose it would work!
Good luck getting it sorted. Love how all the posts involve you dying a long and drawn out death. ____________________ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OPv5mDPQ14

Thanks for all the help, got under there in the end and got the manifold off and gear linkages.
Propped the side of the van with wheels as a safety back up just in case.
Apparently the van isn't high enough to drop the engine yet! Sigh.......! ____________________ Honda H100S2 Rebuild - https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=253852 |

I've always thought that would be a particularly unpleasant way to die Slowly suffocating most likely.
I generally like to make sure if I'm working under the car that my missus isn't out of the house and knows I'm doing it so if it happened she might at least notice I've been a suspiciously long time out there ____________________ ZX6R + CBR600RR |

She was in the house and came out and found me trapped. I had a rear wheel off (no idea why, it was a long time ago) but I put it under the hub in case it slipped. I was only stuck for a short time and she relocated the jack and got it back up.
However if you ever get trapped for any time by the limbs do not let anyone other than parameds get you out. there can be a buildup of toxins due to lack of circulation and these rush around your body once circulation is returned and can kill.
