So following from my broken down thread earlier. I got her home using no lights and got the multimeter out.
The battery was at 11.56V with engine off.
It then stayed at 11.5V when the engine had been jumped and idling at 1.5k
Then again, the voltage stayed at 11.5V at 5-6k revs

I took my side fairing off to get into the reg rec and have a look at this. I was shocked. Wires from stator to connector block, one had obviously cooked the surrounding plastic so bare wire was showing.

Then I looked into the connector block and saw melted connector block with more exposed wiring. Ive tried to attach pictures but tablets aren't the best to use for this..

Links are https://db.tt/t3Q7MwxS

My questions are, what are those connector blocks actually called so I can get a new one to replace them and also, providing no wires are exposed and connecting to each other, what figures should I look for with the voltmeter?
Oooooo also its a 6 wired plug, could I get a better reg rec to replcae this one out with like what has been mentioned in the past?

Cheers

It's a six-pin female spade connecter block. You won't be able to get one from the maker, they come with the loom - you'll need to use a specialist supplier. Should be one on eBay.

I was hoping I could get those spade connectors out of the current block and replace what needs replacing and put them in a new one. So I wont be able to find a shop that sells them, I mean in person so I can get something done tomorrow. Its my form of transport to work

Thanks for that info, I've ordered one of them.

I didn't get out to the garage yesterday to have a tinker because we bought a pet instead!

Aye, dropbox takes a bit of extracting the actual image URL from.

You can buy terminals suitable for fitting in connector blocks from a company called Vehicle wiring products.

I personally would cut the connector block off and replace them with non-insulated bullet connectors with individual silicone covers.

I would probably do this too.

thanks for the pictures J.M!

And I've got a new block ordered with new spades so I'm gonna whip that full block off and get everything neat and clean again. I'll update with pictures again soon!

So I'm waiting for the connector block so I went to the garage to try take some readings from the stator.

I had the battery on charge on the optimate since saturday.

I took the plug off the rectifier and took the waterproof casing off - it was melted to one of the yellow phase wires.

I unplugged this lot from the stator to expose the three phase (I'm gonna call them) wires and it fired up off the battery, this was reassuring meaning I hadn't totally killed the battery. The multi meter showed around 36 AC V between each pair of phases at idle then around 60 AC V at about 4-5k. I took that as the stator being ok!

I simply got some electrical tape, separated all the touching, exposed wires (when I say all, I mean 2) and wrapped them to stop them from shorting each other. Got the multimeter out at the connector end and got the same V readings as down at the stator so to me it meant there was no breaks in the wires.

Plug them into the reg rec with some fiddling to make sure everything was connected and fired her up again. V at the battery not running was about 12.5V then at idle 13.4-9V then at 4/5 k 14.39 V. System charging!

But my headlight is blown, another task to tackle
