H&R through wicked quotes (or was it tesco compare) cover me to ride other bikes, provided my licence allows.
Licence, <33bhp
Bike, ZZR600
Was with bikesure on a CBT with a Varadero and didn't have cover to ride other bikes or pillion cover, even after passing my tests. ____________________ Looking to pass your CBT / Bike tests in Bury Lancashire? try www.focusridertraining.co.uk Would recommend.

"We figured out all the things that bikers like to do, so that we know what not to cover".
Someone on here (was it Paddy?) got fed that line about other bike cover only being "meant for" emergencies and not for test rides, how very dare we. Sounded like the butthurt was flowing through them.
Anyway.
I'm with Hastings Direct for both Ze Beemer (800cc, fully comp, 0 NCD) and the ped (385cc, TPF&T, 4 years NCD).
Both polices come with other-bike cover. There's no requirement for that bike to be covered by another policy. And yes, I've read the policy document (the contract) carefully as well as the certificate and am very clear on that, although I expect a Hastings phone monkey to have different ideas.
The only exclusion is not covering release of someone else's impounded vehicle, which I believe is fairly standard. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I believe that was me.
| Quote: | Hi,
My insurance broker is WickedQuotes, underwritten by yourselves, Equity Red Star.
My policy certificate states (and I quote):
The Policy holder may also drive a motorcycle not belonging to him/her and not hired to him/her under a hire purchase or leasing agreement, as long as the policy holder has the owner's permission to drive it and provided that the policy holder is not in the motor trade of car hire business.
My policy policy wording states (and I quote):
Driving other vehicles
We will also provide the cover shown above (if this is specified in your certificate of motor insurance and your vehicle has an engine size of 351cc's or more), for you to drive any motorcycle that you do not own and have not hired under a hire purchase or leasing agreement, as long as you have the owner's permission to drive it.
You are not insured against the following:
- Any loss or damage to the vehicle you are driving.
- Any event which happens outside of the United Kingdom
- Any event which happens when the insurance is not in the name of an individual person.
- Any liability if you no longer have possession of the insured vehicle.
My engine size is 500cc.
Am I insured for the purpose of test-riding an uninsured motorcycle, which I do not own, providing that I am licensed to do so?
Regards,
J.M. |
| Quote: | Good Morning
In reply to your email, the Driving Other Motorcycles is for emergency use only and not for testing other motorcycles.
If you need any more information, contact your broker.

Although I see now that "Any event which happens when the insurance is not in the name of an individual person." would exclude me from riding an uninsured bike.
Although I had (possible still have) a phone recording of a WickedQuotes employee telling me that I was "absolutely insured to ride a uninsured bike 3rd party, but don't do it". ____________________ 2004 R1 & 2018 XSR900 |

I've been allowed to ride other bikes third party through wicked quotes for two years, since being 17, and this year I changed to MCE, who have also allowed me to do so. ____________________ Generic XOR 50, Gilera SMT 50, GSXR 400 GK73A, Ducati Monster 600, Honda Hornet 600.

I've had policy docs come through before with it on there, and then ring to clarify, been told because I was under 21/24 or whatever at the time it doesn't apply to me.
When I had an RF900 and DRZ400 insured on one policy, they wouldn't give me it, but they did on a separate policy at the same time on a GT550 and CB125.
The woman on the phone told me it was because I'd likely be riding bikes with less power and value or something. So basically Riding an RF9 means I'll be borrowing brand new blades every week, but the GT means I'll be riding with poor students on broken cb500s. ____________________ Previous: GSF600, FZR600 x2, ZXR750, XT600 Tenere, CB125, CZ125, ETZ 250, ER5, CCM R30, DRZ400, RF600x4, RF900x2, GS500, VTR1000F, 640 SMC, CB250 NIGHTHAWK, GT550x3, GPX750 TE610, CB500, X11x2, SV650, ZING 125, TL1000R,CB250 Superdream, CBR1100XX |
