Cost me £8, 90 to do 67 miles today. What is that all about?
2010 model barely 4k miles in total. Standard front sprocket 49t rear. Tops out at81mph.. shame cos it handles nice. Any ideas?

What's that, about 50mpg? On fuelly there are a few getting less and a few getting more maybe it's due a service.

Hi

Works out at about 45mpg which does sound pretty bad for a little 4 stroke twin. And 81mph sounds way too slow.

Could be loads of things. Needs a service (badly!). Brakes dragging. 30 stone rider. Etc. Any thing not feel right with the bike?

All the best

Keith

It's burning way too much fuel. Plugs out to confirm, I'd suspect the lambda sensor(s) or associated wiring.

How long do you spend 'warming your bike up' every day.

I know people who spend around 5 mins 2-3 times a day warming up their bike and wonder why their fuel consumption is higher than others with the same model!

Just a thought, unlikely to be your issue though Surprised

1, 34 a litre. I don't warm it up I just ride it. I've bought a 41t sprocket from usa to sort it. It used to have a really high idle but aftrr a few days I could actually lower it now and it doesn't stall. Rides and drives well.
I'm also under fifteen stone and the bike is Street fightered.

Street fightered. So you have increased the wind resistance. Changing the sprocket is making the engine work harder to get you to cruising speeds.

Just how do you ride it?
Throttle to the stop, or bimble along?

Going to make a massive difference. As can be Seen here

Sensible riding to work, along with odd blast with a friend.

wemoto told me the standard was a 49t rear... Hm.

Anyway new one on way, £30 inc import fees allgedly so can't complain.

Not what they list on their site. 49t is about 14% lower gearing that 43 tooth which is a fairly hefty amount. That said going down 1 tooth on the front of my Bandit (7% change in gearing) made fuel consumption about 10% worse.

All the best

turns out j49 on the sprocket wasnt the number of teeth.

It was a 42t all along, new sprocket came, 41t. Laughing

squeezed 91mph out of it, proper nailing it. Barely cruises at 60-65. It struggles a bit.

Also, £5 of fuel will get me 38 miles. Confused

What's the throttle response like? Is it boggy? Could be running massively rich, that would cause a slow top speed and higher fuel consumption.

My mate had one before his R6, same year, and he reckons he got the clock reading 115 and got around 75mpg, IIRC. I remember being impressed that the tank range seemed similar to my Varadero's.

Does she rev cleanly? She may just need a proper service, possibly dirty air filter restricting air flow? Like someone else suggested, a broken Lambda sensor will cause all kinds of issues, telling the engine it's running lean, so can pump more fuel in etc... TPS damaged. If that's worn, she might feel jumpy while riding and may be sending the wrong signals to the ECU, again telling it that you're at full throttle when you aren't.

I don't know, does it have engine check lights fitted?

If not, I vote plug removal and inspection!

Ah it's strange, the throttle is snappy, but being gentle with it and its lovely.

Runs nice, no problems. Laughing maybe new filter is on the cards... May have a look tomoz.

I looked online and everyone is trying to hit 100mpg.

Im sitting on my bike that drinks fuel and im like BRAPPPP. Laughing Laughing Laughing

I'll replace the air filter tomoz (if its dirty), otherwise I may remove the lambda sensor wiring and see what happens.

If I disconnect the lambda sensor it has slightly better bottom range but she tops out at 70 mph. Haha I'll try the air filter.

How about a Lambda eliminator? It won't cause a fault and if the lambda is the problem it will run much better. I had a quick look on ebay but couldn't see one for this bike. I've got one here for my ER-6.
