Hi Guys,

Been racking my brains over a Kymco Super 9 (50cc) Scooter that just will not start... Ive been working through the possible problem but cant seem to find it.

Ive had the carb out, cleaned, rebuilt. Reeds Checked ( No Problems at first sight ), and replaced the plug and coil with a known working coil.

I seem to be getting spark, so I have ruled that out so far.

Im getting fuel to the carb, but from what I can see im not getting fuel to the plug, I crank the engine for 5-10secs and inspect the plug but it is dry as a nuns hoohaa.

Im thinking that it could be rings, but then the scoot has only done a relatively low milage.

Anybody got some knowledge with these things???

All the best!

Has scoot overheated in the past and maybe nipped up (siezed) the piston? (as I've said before, I hate working on 2-strokes).

Sounds like the carb is blocked.

Put a drop of fuel in the plug hole then try to start it.

If it starts, you need to strip the carb down for a clean.

Could be a real possibility, I have no idea about the history of the scoot, but the poor thing has been tucked up in a farm barn with cows to keep it company...

Evoboy:
I forgot to mention that I tried that earlier today. Again when i squirt a little fuel in it almost seems like the plug is dry after cranking. Not even getting a hint of it starting.

Evoboy: Im getting the same feeling, will inspect the barrel/head tomorrow sometime, will try and post up some pics.

jjdugen: could well be adding to the problem; it does certainly seem that the poor thing has had a hard up-bringing.

Thanks for the help everyone! Smile

So heres the Sit-Rep so far:

Dug out my compression tester, fitted and turned over the engine, At first I though I had not fitted the tester properly because it just lifted the needle off its rest. Checked and tightened and same again... not even registering a number Shocked Whilst I had the tester in a sprayed the crankcase with soapy water, turned the engine over and its blowing all over the shop.

RUST IN PEACE Scooter. I think you deaad.
