Right, so im eyeing up this bike that i could make an offer on, as one would guess by the subject name, its an rf900 - 95/96 model. Bar the general servicing it needs it has one major issue.

The clutch, so at one point the chain snapped on this bike and smashed a chunk of the engine casing. all in all its effectively only superficial. But, it has smashed two of the bolt threads that hold the clutch piston in place. Now every time the clutch is used the piston flexes on its remaining bolts. As its a hydraulic clutch it means theres little room for adjustment.

The thing is ridable now, after getting used to the seemily on/off choice you have but it is steadily worsening..

So, being that this isnt my ride i dont know if this piece of the engine case can be replaced easily or if it is part of the crank case.

Any advice?

its part of the crankcase.

you could have some bosses welded on if you found someone suitably skilled.

Or convert it to a cable clutch.

I have seen a few GSXR1100H and J models with this modification

replace the hydraulic slave cylinder with a mechanical one.

not that that would solve the problem because your still applying force to the same part.

you could.... possibly... fit a gsxr750 clutch cover and lifter mechanism, which pulls the clutch open using a rack and pinion built into the clutch cover.

although im not sure if the oil boiler clutch covers bolt on to the rf motors.
