The CD models are commuter single carb models, the CB's are the more sporty models, twin carbs and better exhausts, better brakes, better instruments.

Most of the cycle parts will change though the engines on the CD tend to have 360 cranks with the CB models having 180 cranks, the wiring looms in respect to the ignition circuit will also be different between CB and CD.

CD125 Benley Has Twin-Shock rear suspension; the CB125 has Mono-Shock rear suspension; CD has 17" wheels; CB 18" wheels; CD has drum brakes; CB has disc front, ad the list goes on....

Easier for me to list the bits that they share.... that will be; crank-cases; cylinder barel; cylinder head bare casting and valves, the cam-chain and cam-chain tensioner....

The crank in the Benly has 360 'Timing'; both pistons' up and down together; CB has 180 crank; one piston up, one down; which means that the cam-timing also has to be different; so dfferet cams; also different ignitions to give different spark timing; so a lot of electrical differences; The CB125 has a rev counter, so the oil-pump is different having an open casing to allow the rev counter drive to be taken off the end; CB motor can rev to 14K, and drives 18" wheel, so the gear ratios are all different in the gearbox, as Benly revs to nadge over 10K and turns a 17" wheel.. Rocker covers are different, carbs are different, air-boxes are different, exhausts are different, err... NOT much is the same.... tappet adjuster screws have the same part umber if that helps?

SO... they have very different chassis, with little interchangeability, except perhaps the odd light bulb or perhaps handle-bar grips; the engines are of the same basic design, based on the same crank casings, but internally, totally different designs; with again, little 'direct' interchangeability. To all extents and purposes they are completely different motorcycles.

B-U-T..its all pretty much in the Haynes Manual for the model.. And why are you interested?

Hi

Thanks for the information. Was wondering about parts as the CD125 parts is hard to come by, having said that i've pretty much sourced all the parts I need to build a cafe racer.

thanks

Keith

The 1984 CB125 uses a mono shock.

Yes, because I drew that picture of a 1984 CB125 with crayons.

Now of course, someone is going to have to specify which CB125 they are talking about.............

1984 was a strange year for honda, what with having monoshock and twinshock subversions of the same model designation in circulation, they even continued the twinshock version into at least 1986 and later in some markets.

But hey, what would I know about honda? It's not even as if I like these far eastern tinpot excuses for a machine.
