Hi Guys and Girls,

I dropped my Gn 125 this morning on its right side. No damage except the brake leaver is bent.
The brake lightr is not on so I dont think its sticking......but I had to take the hills on the way to work in a lower gear than normal.

3rd instead of 4th.
2nd in places that I've never need to change down before.

Also it seems like its going to die on me on a particularly steep hill.

Any suggestions?

I've ordered a new brake lever as I dont fancy trying to bend it back.

Cheers for your help in adavance...

Put it on the centre stand (or get someone to hold the back end in the air, they only weigh about 1/2 pound) and try to spin the back wheel in neutral.

I bet it doesn't spin freely (well, as freely as something with a chain on can anyway)...

Go for a longish ride, spit on the rear brake, if it hisses it is sticking. Laughing Thumbs Up

Sounds very much like the back brake is sticking. You might have bent something.

Cheers Guys.

Havent managed to get out to check the free wheeling of the wheel yet.

If it is the rear brake....easy fix?
I'm not too bad with mending things myself but not tackled brakes yet.

Might be worth checking around the spark plug area as I dropped my 125 a few years ago (v-twin), the bike would start and idle fine and was kind of normal on flat roads.... but when I got to a hill it ran like a bag of shit.... couldn't even manage it in first. Then I noticed 1 of the spark plug caps had come off, after that it ran fine.

Just saying as it only takes a second or 2 to check it is secure enough

Gn is a single, it wouldn't run with the plug cap off.

You may get away with simply adjusting the back brake by turning the adjuster nut.

Dat.

It looks like you have the typical arrangement of a rod running back from the pedal to the drum brake actuator arm. There should be a tiny bit of play in that arm.

At the very end of the rod is a nut. Turn it anticlockwise, spin wheel, repeat until wheel spins freely.

Then find your rear brake light switch. That'll most likely be a pull switch attached by a wire to the brake lever. Firstly, pull down on the wire manually to check that the brake light does come on at some point. If it does, you'll need to move the switch away from the lever, likely by unscrewing it from whatever it's mounted in so that it moves upwards. Ensure that you don't twist any wiring while you're doing this!

Before you adjust anything have a good look at it, something may be bent/stuck whatever. If the brake was adjusted correctly to start with I wouldn't adjust it to fix without looking at it properly.

Or post a photo here so someone more knowledgeable can tell him if something is broken?

It's hard to know if something is out of place, if you don't know what it should look like. Smile

When I threw my GZ (cruiserified GN) down on wet leaves, I thought I'd bent the brake lever but it turns out it was the stop for the brake pedal so it threw my brake adjustment out. Needed a hammer to fix. It is possible your rear brake light adjustment is out, brake lights and absence of does not mean braking. Mine are set so in can flash brake lights without braking.
