Great, does exactly what it says on the tin Thumbs Up

My advice with them follow the instructions 1 scoop then fill to the 1 line, or 2 scoops and fill to the 2 etc. Putting more water through the grounds adds bitterness, top it up with hot water if you are having a cup. Also take your time brewing it. Thumbs Up

Aeropress with Hario Mini Mill hand grinder and Pact subscription here. Two coffees a day, 10-13g of beans per cup, so I get about 10 cups from a 250g bag of whole beans.

Use an automatic burr grinder at home, only one coffee on Saturday and Sunday.

I use a fine steel mesh filter (S Filter) with the Aeropress at work, removes the need to keep filters safe from the cleaners, other fluids, etc. I use a combo of steel mesh and paper filter at home. The paper filter doesn't catch much, the steel blocks almost everything.

Different beans benefit from different grind size and steeping time. Some coffees, I'll brew in the Aeropress upside down, as otherwise the water filters through a bit too quickly (the steel mesh is more porous than the paper filters to begin with). The grinders, both manual and automatic, make it easy to adjust. Overextracted coffee is bitter, underextracted is sour. Finer grinds and longer steeping increases extraction. But my taste also varies, depending on how tired I am.

I bought a DeLonghi EC152 around a year ago and have used it daily since then. It's a simple one, but turns out decent enough coffee. I have generally bought from supermarkets, stuff like Taylors and Illy, but recently found a relatively local online supplier that I think I might give another go.

What I like about a pumped machine vs a pod-based system is that you, as the 'barista', have an influence over how it turns out. How much coffee you use, how hard you tamp it, how long you pump for, the grind size etc. There's a skill to it, which appeals to me (at the risk of getting some cups that aren't so great).

Whilst I think the "Use by" dates are a con, that's pushing it a bit.

Doesn't for me, then again I brush my teeth after the morning coffee and chew mints like they are going out of fashion the rest of the day

Nowadays we go for convenience in making coffee.

We have a Nespresso machine as Mrs bamt likes it. It gives reasonable drinks and is consistent, but a little expensive to run at about 30p a cup and the machines aren't particularly long lived before they start to leak. We are on our third; and one of those I got another couple of years life out of by replacing a leaking valve before the heater failed. I'd probably not replace the machine for my own use.

We also have a Cuisinart bean to cup coffee robot a bit like that Andrew James one. Bung beans and water into it, set the timer, wake up to freshly ground and brewed coffee. Perfect. It's also been useful the odd time when I've forgotten to set my alarm clock; the grinder (which normally fires up when I'm using the bathroom) wakes me up.

at work I drink Tesco French ground from a cafetiere or taylors if its on offer cause I drink too much of it to buy the dear stuff.

I bought a grinder and have been using Tesco's Java Sumatra Beans, which are rather nice, and I bought some Panama Dark and some Gautemala beans from fresco gaurmet coffee - https://www.frescogourmetcoffee.co.uk/ again in a cafetiere.

I have also got a nespresso machine.

I'm not really a big fan of percolated coffee, it never seem hot enough.

Does anybody know where you can buy decent beans by the kilo fairly cheaply.
