Bobbers are almost invariably one-off custom built machines, so it's hard to say without seeing your particular machine. Pics please.

They won't be wide enough to hide the L plates.

How much are you planning to sink into your tiddler instead of spending it on getting a license to ride that bike that you actually want?

With hindsight, you'll realise that this comment is actually helpful. I wish it had been said to me more forcibly.

I understand what you're saying I'm just trying to make it look better as well as adding value to when I come to sell it.

it will lose value. 125's hold their value very well when left untouched.

i agree with your reason to make it look better. There is a resounding hatred of 125's on this forum, so opinions are likely to be biased.

[OT]
I liked riding my 125 through the big smoke. It was very rare that my commute to work wasn't one giant 18mile tailback so the lack of speed wasn't an issue. What was good was the cheapness, the lack of nickability, the narrowness and the fact that I could ride it with the throttle pinned everywhere. It made the commute kind of fun. When commuting on the gixxer, I never changed gear, couldn't filter as easily due because the bike was heavier and had a shit turning circle. Was also expensive to service and drank fuel. Was very boring.

Trying to stay constructive (Paddy, you so rageface) possibly the least meddlesome thing you could do to personalise it would be white wall tyre paint.

Or spokey-dokeys.

I have to ask, since you've gone to the trouble of making extended linkages for the forward foot controls, why have you gone and skimped so hard as to use an old man's coin purse for a seat?
Also, what the shuddering fuck is that thing hanging off the rear axle?

Edit: If you have one fitted it has to be secure, but it is not a legal requirement . Although it is a requirement for road use, just like a speedo. As you don't need one fitted for an mot, but do need one fitted for road use.

your bike is not road legal even though it may pass an MOT test as it currently stands. and on that subject, rear mudguard will need modifying to fit different size wheel - this is quickly turning into a can of worms.

I am also wonder what the hell that thing is hanging of the rear axel, extra weight to make it go extra slow or something along those lines?

What wheels and tyres do you want to fit?

You can make the necessary spacers and other metal work required?

The back wheel should be relatively straight forward compared to the front end!

There are no L plates, so I assume you have passed your test, so why the fuck are you riding round on such an abortion.

Edit - I've just realised that you were the person asking if you could wear a pisspot on your head legally. Are you doing this for a bet?

Can I just point out I bought the bike like this with every intention of having it as a project infact it was worse than this I have taken crap off it. I want to change the seat and get rid of the long black thing on the back which is the light I'm also planning on doing something with the paint also i want to put bigger tyres/wheels on but the main reason i bought it was it runs and has a full mot on it. I ask for advice about doing something with it and all i get is leave it alone but as you can see I don't want to leave it like this. I know very little about riding which is why I joined this site hoping to learn but Jesus I didn't realise I was going to have to justify myself to you people. Rant over.

That's a pretty thorough job so far.

Round headlight, lose the instruments in favour of a single speedo, sprung seat.

It'll still all be money down the drain, but that should at least make it easier to sell on when you come to your senses.

There's a limit to how wide your tyres will go.

Hardtail 125 with standard rear tyre is going to kill your back. I normally disagree with people wanting wider tyres but in this case you need a bigger rear tyre with less pressure in it. Biggest you can fit. Front looks OK to me.

As far as I can see your chain clearance is the limiting factor on width here. The mudguard strut is the limiting factor on profile. The latter can be moved. The former cannot (easily).

So. See what tyre you have on already. They look like a metzeler 3.00x18. Nominally 3" wide with a 90% cross section (height is 90% of the width so 2.7 inches high.

Check the distance between your sidewall and the chain. Double that is the MAXIMUM width you could add to the current tyre width.

Next two readily available sizes up are 3.25 x 18 and 3.5 x 18

Old-school choppers used to use a 4" tyre but there is no way you'll fit one in there.

Looking at your picture, you're going to be lucky to even go up to a 3.25. That'll put the profile height up by 0.22" (5.6mm), might just fit with no modifications . A 3.50 would increase the profile by 0.45" (11.4mm) but I suspect you don't have that much chain clearance to play with.

The other consideration is if that'll fit on the wheel rim. I suspect you have a WM2 rim on the rear (1.85" wide) which normally takes between a 2.75 and 3.10 tyre. You can squeeze on up to a 3.60. No bigger. But that's moot because you'd almost certainly need to move the whole engine to the left and fabricate an outrigger sprocket carrier to fit anything wider than a 3.50.

So. No need for a wider wheel. It's pointless because a tyre to suit it wont physically fit in your bike, it would rub on the chain. You can probably go up to a 3.25x18 and still have it fit. You MIGHT be able to go up to a 3.50x18 but it'll be tight and you'll need to move the rear mudguard mount.

My personal suggestion. Get an Avon Safety Mileage 3.25 x 18 (or 3.50 if it'll fit in the gap, it just might due to their squareness, they tend to be on the narrow side compared to more conventional tyres). Fit it with a tube, run it at low pressure (low 20's of psi). They are an old fashioned tyre with a pretty much square cross section and heavy duty tread. This means they'll cope with being run soft. They have big sidewalls which are also multi-ply and have a fair degree of flex in them.

You have very limited ground clearance anyway. When you corner, the sidewalls will flex and the tread will remain on the road giving you a large contact patch and at least some suspension.

Look at pictures of early hardtail motorcycles, (google BSA M20) this is how they did it. Round profile front, soft and squidgy square profile rear.

You urgently need a front mudguard and a sprung saddle.

On a styling front. If you're going to rock a square headlamp and cast wheels, I'd be looking at T-bars. You hardly see T-bars about these days. They were big in the late 70's/early 80's. Cool

Thanks man now that's helpful, I plan on getting a round headlight anyway and round speedo as well as a spring seat and bigger tyre. This may be my first and only bike so why not do something with it.
