On my way to work today and half way there my bike started juddering (like it does when its low on petrol). Little bit further through my journey and the bike cut out so i rolled to a stop. Started the bike again and continued but the problems still existed and my bike stopped again. The bike does not start every time and sometimes wont tick over.

It just judders and cuts out, also when it cuts out it sometimes sounds like the bike is in too high of a gear (its not) and is labouring. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?

I had a similar problem a while back where it would judder and struggle to start/tick over. I took it to the garage and they cleaned the fuel injection and it was fine until now. Maybe its the same problem, or something else?

Its got a full tank of petrol, new spark plug, new oil.

Cheers for any help Smile

How's your battery? Given the wiring a good wiggle and a dose of WD-40?

Usual question: why did you change it, did you diagnose the cause, did you charge it fully, is it charging up, and is it holding charge?

07 YBR, so the fuel injected one? Does the yellow engine light blink when it stalls? Does it re-start on the button or do you have to kick it?

I've said it before - but 99% of the running problems on my YBR were solved by sorting out the charging system. I could just about get away with charging the battery every couple of nights - but the only proper fix was to replace the stator (that had melted on the inside, so impossible to see without removing it). Ran as good as new after that... When it was struggling for electricity - the indicators and headlamp wouldn't work, and pressing the brake or horn made the rev counter drop to zero.

A multimeter and a healthcheck of your charging system will save you headaches and replacing random components. (I've got a reg/rec for sale due to doing exactly that Embarassed )

Is my suspicion. Fuelling problems on a FI bike are likely to be electrical.

Depresses me, the number of folk that just sling a new battery in and hope for the best.

Took it to a garage and they reckon the piston rings have gone. Does that sound like something that's possibly causing my problems? 60quid I'm being charged for nother even fixing the problem or even knowing what the real problem is :/

Could be. They've seen the bike, we haven't.

To get that diagnosis, they should have:

1) Done a compression test and seen a low reading.
2) Squirted oil into the cylinder and repeated the test.

That's about 5 minutes on a YBR.

I had a similar issue when I owned an 09 YBR, did you try emptying the crankcase catcher? You can see in this thread

They did not do a compression test. He emptied the airbox, topped up the oil, sprayed water on to check if it's electric related. Didn't seem to do much to be fair.

Just looked at your thread. My airbox did have water in it and it looked similar to the picture in your thread. The mechanic cleaned the airbox, what else can I do and what could it mean?
