Engine mounting angle

Hey, i'm mounting a 97' CBR600 engine which won't be at its original angle, It will be mounted so the chain exits the engine straight down above an axle, will this effect anything like the oil pick up or carbs , etc etc.

please look at the image below you'll see for the chain to directly exit the engine vertically it needs to be rotated clockwise.

Oil pick up, depends if its at the front or back. Carbs, more than likely

oil and carbs will be a problem. What are you doing with it that it needs to be rotated that far?

I would try to keep it as close to original angle as poss or the carbs will be unhappy
Maybe using a small jackshaft and sprocket to get the chain run where you want it

the usual way is to make the cart longer and move the axle back so stuff fits.
you are not going to have the engine that far off the floor are you?
is this for some form of organised motorsport or just mess about fun?
ive done a couple of bike engined cars and results are not as allways as good as you would expect,but sometimes its amazing!

Thought it would be a problem, I won't be at that height, it will be flush with the frame. I'm trying to make short as possible, hence rotating the engine. I was thinking having two chains, one going horizontally out the engine then one going diagonally backwards to clear the engine, but ill have a rethink. What is a jackshaft? just an extension ?

Do a google image search for jackshaft, you'll need one for 2 chains.

Or make an extension to bring the chain out further from the gearbox - outrigger bearing and support would probably be a good idea.

Float heights will be messed up, it may be possible to adjust that out though. I'd have thought oil feed might be more of an issue, although you MIGHT get away with overfilling it... if the bottom of the crank is submerged in oil, you might damage it though.

And a piece of steel bar, you'd have it knocked together in a couple of hours and not have to worry about adjusting any of the engine to suit a new angle.

You could almost certainly safely remove a fair portion of the cast alloy "lip" below the sprocket which would give you a wider angle to play with.
