Selling my kawazaki 85cc. But before i do that i have to replace the piston. So just now the bikes lying in bits all over the garage floor
because i don't have a torque wrench to set the appropriate torque for the cylinder head and even if i did it would not fit in the small space. If i tighten it up really tight will this do the job or will i have to set the torque using a different method of just get a wrench.

Any help would be great thanks, phil

stop being a tight git, get a toruqe wrench only £30. if you do the cylinder head bolts up too tight you will snap/shear them, and not tight enthough the head gasket will leak. the same with the cylinder base nuts

You need a torque wrench to ensure that the mating surfaces are flush and form a good seal. Easy for me to say though, I can borrow my old mans Smile

Mind you, if the bikes in bits, you could tighten it all up before putting the engine back in....

If you do not torque the bolts down properly, progressivley and in the correct order, you will warp the cylinder head and it will never seal properly again without remachining. You could always borrow a wrench off someone. If you can't get it to fit somehow, drop the engine.

Stinky raised a good point there, you need to tighten in the right order, normally that means tightening in diagonal opposites from the inside nut outwards.

Also important is to ensure the threads on the nuts/bolts/studs are very clean and lightly oiled(wd40) but not dripping with the stuff. Make sure there is no water or oil in the holes as this will give a false reading as water and oil do not compress and the wrench will be fooled into thinking the torque required has been met Thumbs Up Good luck
