I see! yes life savers I knew about.
So, to the my understanding so far is that during module 1 we are not meant to use indicators at all.

No, I didn't. Indicators are used to send signals to other road users. There aren't any, so no need to indicate.
The IAM/RoSPA observers will actually give you a bollocking for indicating when there's nobody else to be seen. They're wrong about that (it's doubly important to signal to someone that you've failed to see), but it indica-... signa-... shows that the 'advanced' riding fraternity frowns on what they view as unnecessary indication. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
