Check to see if there's an air restricting washer in the carb between the filter and the carb Thinking

Could be the other kind though, which I believe is somewhere near the clutch bit

Was it like a metal circle with holes in it?

I'm certain that's the restriction, you'll need to take it out and altar the air/fuel mixture to compensate for the increase in air going in to the engine Thumbs Up

R6 Wilson is right Very Happy ....will also be a part of your exhaust (most likley the near where it comes out of the engine ....with another pipe coming off and going back into the engine ...(ithink this slows down the rate carbon leaves the bike as it sends some back in not100% though) but i know that if you take that off and weld up the gaps it unrestricts 1 part of the exhaust.....most likley other restrictions in the exhaust too.........on the up side the bike is probly worth over 1k possibly near 2k if its newer sell it get a big bike Very Happy

I concur. Leave it restricted and sell it, buy something that'll move a bit faster Thumbs Up

That is the restrictor, yes.

And to altar the fuel/air mixture you turn one of the screws on the carburettor. If you don't have a clue what you are doing I'd recommend asking the help of someone who does, but if you don't and want to risk it go ahead, have a look in your manual which screw does which and play with them a slight turn at a time until it's right

Yes it'll make it faster, your ped isn't going fast because the amount of air taken in to the engine, the more air you can get in, the more fuel you can get in, the bigger the bang, the faster the movement! Good luck

The screw on the carb will only effect the engine when at idle. You WILL need a new jet, search the scooter forums for a recommendation of where to start jet wise. Buy a new exhaust or derestrict the current one.

Damn, forgot about jets. You can buy a box of 10 for a couple of quid if I remember correctly and they're very simple to install (they just screw in)

If its taken you 291 days just to find out what jet size it is, i'd highly recommend just getting a bigger bike, you'll enjoy it 10 fold Smile

Speaking from experience ... Dont bother doing it unless your going to do it properly and know what your doing .... or just DONT BOTHER at all! Thumbs Up

I had a Derbi Senda SM50 Limited Edition, mine was de-restricted and would hit 58mph (reving the bollox off it) and 50-53 on a flat. Thumbs Down

It didnt last long mate... Ive now upgraded to a Honda NSR125F and its the best thing i ever did, is pretty quick, comfy & im not filling up every 10 mile because of sh*t small tank.
You can get them cheap enough if you look hard enough... i got mine for £800! BARGAIN!! Thumbs Up

GET A 125 Mate!

Your going to need to derestrict the exhaust or buy another, change the jets and keep fannying around with them til you get it right.

It sounds easy but there is a hell of a lot of work and a massive ballache. I bought a derestricted bike and had to rejet as I put a different exhaust on. Complete pain in the ass and as above, the max speed for me was 55 screaming it downhill.

Just wait til you are 17 and buy a 125 or do your test, best thing you can do. It will sell better standard as well. Just out of interest, whens your 17th?

As said, I had a derestricted 50 and jumping to 33bhp is quite a lot anyway. You may want to ride a 125 for a month or two to get used to a bit of power rather than derestricting it. At the end of the day though, you only go as fast as you twist your wrist on a 33bhp machine so you will soon get used to it. I am used to mine fully now after riding it for like a month Laughing

Well, considering it took OP the best part of a year to find the carb jet he may well have worked out how to derestrict his moped after 11 years... you never know.

In the meantime, 10 seconds on Google found this:
https://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/showthread.php?194212-help-with-derestricting

Apparently it depends on which revision of the machine you have, which unfortunately is one of the many facts you have failed to tell us...

I'd be amazed if there's any of these bikes left that are still restricted

I'd be even more amazed if de-restricting made any significant benefit in speed.
It's a 50cc (48/49cc).

You can't squeeze much more out of a 50.

Unless you only expect it to last a few months.

There's a reason why highly stressed engines are quoted to have hours running rather than miles driven when sold.

I'd be surprised if there were many running versions the first time this thread was resurrected let alone the second time it was...
