What have you got now and what have you had in the past?

I love dogs (not all breeds) and I've owned quite a few but I've not got one at the moment as I live in a small rented flat with "no pets" rules.

Had a cat/kitten once but hated it and discovered I'm seriously allergic to their hair.

Sounds like you've had some bad luck with the housing situation. I know how tough it is not being able to have a dog when you've always been around them. If it helps, maybe start planning ahead for when you move next, there are ways to make sure landlords can't turn you away just because of a pet.

I worked with Wellness Wag to get an emotional support animal letter, and it gave me the confidence to apply for places that would have said no otherwise. If you ever feel ready to get another dog, that's one way to make sure it's not a problem next time

I've got 2 dogs at the moment, and had cats and dogs for the last 25yrs+.

As a child I always wanted a dog but never had one at home, so soon as the opportunity presented itself (living away from home with my then girlfriend) we got a rescue cat and off we went.

These days I'll be honest, I'm just bored of them though. It's nice to have them around but my wife rarely walks them and is often out and about at the weekends. My 17yr daughter is always 'too tired' and has 'too much school work to do'. So I'm left walking them 90% of the time and I never thought I'd think like this, but constantly picking up poo, making sure they are on the lead whenever near other dogs, trying to find somewhere different to walk them, constantly hoovering because one of them is a fluff ball - it just gets boring!

They're 7 and 10, once they're gone I'm looking forwards to the peace and quiet. My family keep saying I'll miss them and want another when they're gone, and they want to keep having dogs. But really, I'd rather Netflix and chill Laughing .

Just down to one elderly, ailing cat now - had mostly dogs in the past.

I'm thinking she'll be the last

They do turn into quite an expensive chore and a hassle after a while don't they, especially if they're medium-large breeds. The last dogs I had were Boerboels (x4) and we bred a couple of litters too so at one stage we had 16 dogs to look after. The stress of all that ended my relationship with my long-term partner of 15 years and put me off dogs for life. I do still miss the companionship of having a dog though but if I ever get another it will probably be a short coat mini Dachshund or something similar that's low maintenance.

I have a cat. She was a stray living in my Mum's neighbours garden and when they moved out the new tenants called a pet rescue service to take her so we just decided to take her home. She's blind in one eye so we creatively called her One Eye after a character in a book I read Laughing

I did want a dog but I knew once the novelty wore of I would get fed up of walking it every day.

I have at present a Lurcher and a bearded dragon.

The Lurcher is my first ever dog that isn't a German Shepherd (I've had 7 including 2 pups bred from one bitch) and while shes a friendly thing she is as thick as sh1t. But she's the only thing that really gets me out walking nowadays, In fact she's probably the only reason I socially interact with people except when I visit a pub on my boat.

The beaded dragon I got during lockdown. I should have got fish, they would be more interesting. Dragons live for 10-15 years so the boring bastard will probably outlive me and then starve to death because wifie is petrified of him and woe is me if any locusts escape before being eaten.

Actually the locusts are more interesting than the bloody dragon.

My eldest daughter's boyfriend has a pet snake and it spends 99% of its time curled up on the heat mat. Most boring animal ever! At least a gerbil has a bit of a scamper about from time to time, a spin in the wheel, something to tell you it's living a life!

That being said, I suppose the challenge with exotic animals is keeping the fuckers alive. More of a hobby than a pet.

Parsons/Jack Russels aren't small dogs. They are actually the largest breed of dog in the world. Just ask one.
